GPS connection issue

Today, at the USAT Multisport National Champs, my FR955 struggled to get a satellite lock, alternating between green and red.  I had run the day before in the same location, no GPS issue.  So, the 1st run is a 5 km / 3.1 mi course.  I know this to be true for a number of reasons, including that I did the same course last year with my 920Xt.  But today, the 955 reported 2.5 mi, so the pace was whack.  Now, I get slow GPS satellite acquisition.  I'm an owner of a FR305!  But what I experience today was unacceptable.  I have no idea why it happened today - I've done many runs/rides with the 955 without issue.  It seems, though, that some programming is missing - bad/inconsistent satellite lock?  Warn the user and reset the appropriate sensors.  I was reluctant to restart the watch for fear that it might never restore.  The bike leg and 2nd run leg looked perfect.  Not sure what up here, but certainly a frustration.  FWIW, I used a $60 Amazfit Bip S for a year+ and never had this issue.  Granted, a far less capable device than the 955.  But in terms of core functionality, yeah, GPS was rock solid on a device that was 1/8th the price...

Just frustrated...

  • In most cases the reason is that your EPO file has expired. Normally this I fixed by either letting your watch soak for up 20 mins or simply synchronizing with the Connect app on either a mobile phone or a computer.

To my knowledge and search of the various forums, there are regardless of FW version no bug here.

  • Keep deleting yor RemoteFW folder when you connect watch to your PC.

I have had many GPS connection issues, it was all random but for last 20 days, ZERO issues.

  • If you travelled a long way from the previous position you had a GPS fix, and have never synchronized with an app in your new location, the AGPS ephemeris data will not be relevant for where you are now. You'll need to synchronize with the app or leave the watch still for about 10-20 minutes with the GPS active to download needed data from the satellites.

  • Ran in the same location for 4 miles the day before. That's not it.

  • When EPO and/or CPE expires, there is a soaking time of several minutes. It can be prevented if you at least once a week synchronizes the watch with Garmin connect either on computer or mobile phone. Typical soaking time is 2-3 minutes if you have not moved far away from previous activities.
