How Forerunner 955 calculates bike distance with with 3rd party sensors?

I've bought XOSS G+ bike computer https://xoss.co/ru/products/xoss-g-gps-bike-computer?variant=31355022442631 with speed and cadence sensors and enjoyed my rides with such configuration

After I bought Forerunner 955 I connected these sensors to it leaving XOSS G+ working on the bike. And noticed that distance is always more by ~10% on Garmin. The wheel size is the same on both

The question is - does Forerunner 955 calculate distance using speed sensor and prefer it over GPS?

Can not answer your specific question 100% but below thought/check might still help to get a better idea.

The 955 can calculate distance and pace in two different ways that you can setup in the profiles as 3D...

In hilly environments this can explain deltas. The non 3D is the horizontal distance (like the distance on the 2D map) while the 3D enabled is including the vertical component (more like a wheel based sensor).

This topic is more about running and GPS modes. But I have speed sensor on my wheel, does it have bigger priority than GPS calculation?

Stryd foot pod and HRM Pro have an option under properties to use them for indoor/outdoor speed and distance or not. If no is selected then the watch uses GPS. The option is available only if sensor is connected. Isn't there similar option for your sensor?

I would start with which one is right?

Get a known distance and check.

Looking at the page I'd suspect the Garmin is correct
