beta 15.12 release candidate

FYI:

This update, version 15.12, is a Release Candidate. "Release Candidate" means that this exact software version is planned to “Go Live” as a public update as long as no critical issues are observed. All copies of version 15.12 will be identical, so there are no differences in functionality whether you install version 15.12 as a Public Release Candidate or wait for the update to be a Live public update.

As a member of the Public Beta program, this update will be automatically delivered to your watch through GCM. Please note that GCM will check for an available update once every 24 hours, and after that it may take several hours for the update to finish transferring and be available on your watch to install.

Changes since version 15.11

  • Fixes an issue where keys did not cause a vibration when the setting was enabled.
  • Fixes an issue that could cause off course warnings to be too sensitive.
  • Improves HRV graphs to better match what is shown in Garmin Connect.
  • Adds support for an acute load watch face data field.
  • Fixes an issue where the performance condition notification could sound an alert tone when alert tones are disabled.
  • Fixes an issue with today’s intensity minutes value getting cut off on the intensity minute page.
  • Fixes other minor issues.
  • There is nothing whatsoever to fear in 15.12. It doesn't introduce any new bugs but does fix many.

  • Thanks, but I follow an old engineering rule, proven by long-time (and sometimes painful) experience: Do not touch what works Smirk

  • i purposefully installed 15.12 when it was offered, but then got the funky update request. i still show 15.12 on my watch (no B appended).

  • If you are on 15.11 already, the only thing you will get from 15.12 is bugfixes. Nobody has (yet) reported anything new in 15.12 which wasn't already in 15.11.

  • Regarding the "B" letter in version designation, I experienced an interesting behaviour at some previous beta fw (maybe 12.20? can't remember).

When entered the About menu, it showed "12.20". But after scrolling all pages down and entering the first About page again, it suddenly showed "12.20B". But as I remember, it was not reproducible always, and since that fw, I haven't seen it again.

  • Yep, I have the same behaviour.

  • It syncs that info from over the internet via somehow. So that kind makes a lot of sense that after install it doesn't show beta, until that sync happens.

Eg. When it goes off from beta, it will sync it and the B is removed even you don't update your watch.

  • No, that does not make any sense at all. I mean - it would, if the behavior had been as you describe. But the actual behavior is totally different.

But I would not try to discuss here over a fact, that some letter appears in About box or not. There are other issues and more important stuff to chat about.

  • Explanation why that doesn't make sense would have been nice. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2022/05/garmin-beta-platform-revamp.html

"However, what’s *really* clever about this is the fact that it’s done dynamically by the server when your watch connects to Garmin Connect. This means that if you’ve got a release candidate version, and it ends up being the final production, you don’t need to re-install it. Neat, huh? Though currently, this doesn’t show for Alpha releases, and additionally, once the beta cycle ends, the symbol disappears. That’s kinda odd, because then you’ve actually got no context that you’re still on beta firmware or not (since you might think it’s production, when in reality, it’s just stale/old). In my mind, a beta build stays a beta build forever (unless it’s the final “chosen one”)."

  • Noticed with this update that the dexcom widget display no longer shows it's value.  Instead it shows "DEXCOMWIDGET" and you must now click through to see the value.
