Altitude changes over night while sleeping

Hi!

Sometimes during the night I see the altitude of my watch either drops very far down or goes up a lot. (Can be up to around 100 meters) Even after it does it’s automatic recalibration it still continues changing. Garmin Support AT is telling me that +/- 120 meter accuracy is completely normal and that I should read about how to clean the watch and recalibrate every hour or so, and I stopped getting answers from their support E-Mail. This occurs regardless of what firmware I’m using. I’m comparing it to an Apple Watch S7, it doesn’t have the same issues of fluctuating altitude like mine does (I don’t have any other Garmin Devices to compare to, happily sold them). During activities (if i manually recalibrate at the start) it works fine.

I’m attaching some screenshots I took. Altitude where I live is 590 meters. I've been using Garmin devices for 10 years, it doesn't seem normal to me.

A useless watch: Altimeter broken, HR all over the place without a cheststrap, LTH never updating, Race Predictor showing different values on watch and connect, and more ....

Thanks Garmin for the new design for saving an activity. Let's hope they release a 975 this year to get mad at it instead.

After more observations: If the watch is left alone on a table, the altitude remains constant. After wearing it again it immediately starts being wonky. Recently it's been having issues more often.

The garmin altimeter algorithm places too much weight on the temperature, this explains the fact that the altitude changes even under the sheets while sleeping at night, it's a SW problem on other Forerunners too, but they don't want to fix it

I know nobody cares, but to clean the dust.

The watch is okay otherwise, besides it not being usable without a chest strap.

WHR is garbage.

Nothing new to report, just adding that I see the same issue on a Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar.

BTW Fenix 6X, Fenix 5 Plus, Fenix 3 never had this issue, and the Fenix 7 developed it only recently. Fenix 1 and 2 show the exact same drift depending on ambient pressure, which is simply how most ABC and sports watches worked at the time, you had to calibrate them every few hours.

Same here with the fr955. No Problems with two fr255 so far
