Why i am on beta software even i did NOT join this program ?

I am FR955 user. Today i got update over wifi.

I never use beta software - i dont trust garmin enough to test theirs software for them for free.

My garmin:

on garmin connect:

  • i also was sent a firmware v15.11. i haven't join beta program. moreover i use forerunner 955 apac firm, not global(rest of world) firm. but i am satisfied with this version firmware..

  • According to this page > Link the 15.11 is a release candidate and also absolutely equal to the beta.

  • Did you ask the watch to check for software updates?

  • Actualy i did! I am not doing it very often (maybe two times after purchase). I tried garmin explore app today and it said that i have to update firmware to use uploading track feature and shows that i have timezones to update. So i used check for updates on the watch.

Is using this feature equal to agreeing to the beta firmware?

  • Shouldn't be the same as enrolling in beta. My only guess is since they said this is a release candidate that will be final that there was an incorrect flag that pushed it as a final.

  • All,

We apologize as we inadvertently released a Beta release as a full candidate release. This would have only been available to those who searched for an update on their watch (Settings > System > Software Update > Check for Updates) during this short period of time and not to the general population. We have since corrected this and moved this software version back to a Beta enrolled only release.

This did not enroll you in the Beta program and you will receive the next full release candidate update when it becomes publicly available. Please respond if you have any further concerns.

  • So, i got yesterday some update, this time automatic without clicking anything. But still on 15.11

On the weekend i got one watch crash (garmin logo) during few hours walk. Thats why i dont like betas.

Today i can see there is 15.12 RC fixing some bugs. I checked by wifi check updates and got nothing.

And now i am on beta 15.11 software which have bugs and cant get 15.12 without joining beta program.

    This is not cool

  • To avoid unpleasant surprises it is best practice to disable automatic updates. This stands true for any electronic device not just Garmin watches. You can choose to update the firmware on a device at a convenient time for you or you can choose to stay on given version. Latest version is not necessarily the greatest as one can see.
