Beta 15.09

Now available to download…

  • No problem for Stryd attached to the foot.

  • Hi All,

question to people who already updated to 15.09. Is there watch update only or there is also any GPS, Sensor Hub, Wi-Fi or ANT/BLE/BT update?

UPDATE: OK, found it in the history of this topic :)

  • Here my comparison of running dynamics of today's run (and yes, I got a threshold update):

    Stride length: Watch 1,21 / Stryd:1,21

    VO: Watch 9,3 / Stryd: 7,48

    GCT: Watch 247 / Stryd: 234

  • Just an FYI on the 965 it is at earlier versions of the GPS WIFi CIQ  etc , so 955 is up top now!

  • Hadn't even thought to look at the comparison.  Just checked mine yesterday vs Stryd

    Stryd 955
    Stride Length 1.0m 1.0m
    Vertical Osc 7.1cm 8.8cm
    Ground Contact Time 274ms 272.3m

Only one that shows a real discrepancy is oscillation, which doesn't surprise me.

If I had a second watch it wouldn't be too hard to record the HRM Pro Plus on one, wrist based on another and compare them with Stryd.  But alas, I don't have another watch and don't actually pay attention to those metrics to care enough to dig deeper.

  • It makes sense that wrist-based and ankle-based measurements of vertical oscillation would be inconsistent given the wide variety of ways in which people move their arms and legs during a run. We all have different biomechanical running patterns.

I would guess that a chest-based sensor would be the most consistent measure of vertical oscillation from runner to runner.

I still plan on mostly ignoring that metric though. Garmin tells me that I have slightly too much vertical oscillation but trying to consciously counteract my natural oscillation during a run feels very uncomfortable.

  • good comments everyone on the vertical oscillation numbers being more stable and reliable from a less variable platform than one's wrist. glad to see everyone's difference is comparable to mine.

let's hope they tackle so of those bugs before they release the final candidate for FW15

  • In few previous releases, beta was kind of OK and the final fw was marked with higher version and it broke something in addition. Slight smile And even contrary to the fact, that Garmin had claimed the beta candidates were not planned to be changed if there was no big flaw and the release fw should have stayed intact.

  • Derek even between My HRM pro plus and stryd foot pod the difference is big in ground contact time and vertical oscillation. The only thing they agree is with cadence and stride length.

  • barometer: 24h graph - change to 12h = watch restart, no changes
