BUG 14.20: HRM dynamics data missing if watch is paired with >1 HRM strap

Hi. Forerunner 955 Solar with firmware 14.20.

I've got 2 x HRM-Pro devices. I'd previously registered both of these HRM straps to my watch (firmware 9.60) and could run with either one and the HRM Dynamics data would be captured in full for my run, every time regardless of which strap I ran with. This worked just fine on my watch last year and worked every time (and still works) on my Forerunner 945.

Now, I can pair one device but if I register both HRM devices, the watch won't record any HRM Dynamics data. I've just had pretty much the worst interaction with Garmin Customer support ever who say this is 'by design' and that you can't pair more than one HRM device to your watch. This information isn't published (they said it didn't need to be) but this seems like a MAJOR limitation of the 955 over the 945 which works fine capturing HRM Dynamics data when the watch is paired with multiple HRM devices

  •   just to make you aware of this apparently new limitation of the Forerunner 955s, introduced on software update after watch purchase. Happy to share logs with you showing previous functionality.

Yes you may email me. Yes you may view my activities. UK.

  • I have an FR955 solar (14.20) and have two chest straps paired. One HRM-PRO Plus that I use for running, on which I do not register any loss of running dynamics. And I use the second one only when cycling (Magene). So if there was a problem with two straps I would have a problem and I don't. But I hope not to use both straps at the same time during one run. ;-)

  • I have three HRM's registered on my 955 (FW 14.20), two times a HRM Pro (FW 8.80) and one HRM Pro Plus (FW 8.80).

All running dynamics data is properly recorded and displayed in Garmin Connect when using one of the above mentioned straps. I haven't tried using them all three at the same time ;-)

  • That’s interesting, thanks . If you don’t mind me asking, is your second chest strap (the one you use for cycling) a strap that is capable of collecting HRM Dynamics data (like the HRM-Pro, HRM-Pro+)?

Only I’ve tried completely wiping and resetting my watch and incrementally adding the HRM-Pro’s. I get the HRM Dynamics data with just one device paired but loose most of the dynamics functionality (things like GCT) when the second device is paired. Interestingly, I still get some of the data like stride length but not all the fields. And it seems to break the HRM Dynamics data for either strap when two are paired with the watch. And I only ever run wearing one of the chest straps when running :-)

  • No, the other Magene does not know how to capture the dynamics of running. Only Garmin waist belts know that. Anyway, I can try pairing my wife's third chest strap, she also has the HRM PRO Plus.

  • You should be able to have more than one chest strap on your watch's Sensor list without losing running dynamics. May I have permission reach out to you via email so we can look into this further?

  • I’m on 14.20. I have a HRM-Pro and a HRM-Pro+ both paired to my watch. I believe both are paired as ant+. I only wear one at a time. I get RD from both as expected.

Unfortunately, neither one can help the watch auto-detect my Max HR or Lactate Threshold.

  • Same for me. 14.20 and I have two HRM Pro plus on firmware 8.80. Both register running dynamics as expected. Neither help me auto detect max HR or Lactate Threshold (known issue).

  • I have hrm run, hrm pro and hmr swim. I noticed that the last two running did not give me a vo2 max amd the heart rate was reading around 20 below where it actually was. The last two runs were with the hmr pro.  both bad heart rate. the last run had no running dybamics. Never had this peoblem until 14.20
