955 Treadmill Issues - Zero Distance & Pace Data

I'm currently on software version 14.20. For the past three software updates, I have found an issue while running on the treadmill. When I start a run, there is zero data displayed for distance and pace for approximately the first minute of my run. After about a minute, distance and pace will start to populate, but pace will show as extremely slow and take sometimes over 2 miles to "catch up." Is anyone else having this problem? I remember seeing a few posts in which folks indicated a similar issue.

I did not have this issue prior to this latest round of software updates which began rolling out maybe 4 weeks ago. No idea why this is happening and why it hasn't been addressed yet! Come on Garmin...please fix this!

  • I have this same problem. Garmin took weeks to “analyze” my data and then concluded it was a hardware problem. They sent a new watch. It has the same issue. It seems to be connected to the move to wrist based power but even turning that off I’m getting wonky readings. There are other posts about the forum on this but Garmin claims they’ve never heard of it. Clearly a software issue but it’s infuriating.

  • I am having the same problem since a couple of weeks. No sure if it started with a software update. Stopping the workout and then resuming it starts the measurement instantly.

  • How did you get Garmin to analyze your data and make the determination that it was a hardware problem? Just curious how you went about starting that process as I would like to do it as well. Maybe if more folks complain and request support then they will address the issue.

  • I called and reported the problem. The opened a ticket and told me I was the only one on it since no one else ever had this problem—that’s just not true. They had me download all the data from the watch and send it to them. Then they had me jump through hoops I had already done—reset, recalibration, run without a HR monitor, change some settings, etc. When nothing worked they concluded it was a hardware issue and warranteed the watch. The new one has the same issue. I would assume they are different batches because the original was purchased at launch and this one was a new unit, but who knows.

IMO it’s clearly a firmware issue associated with wrist running power. I have not had a problem with treadmill runs before that update using Garmin products for more than a decade prior to this. Deactivating power readings completely has helped but there is still significant lag and dropouts. As the one user stated, starting and stopping also helps some. Doing an interval run on the treadmill is virtually impossible to do by pace with this issue.

  • It happens to me at FW 14.13. See my post about. No remedy till now.

  • Thanks! We shouldn't have to find our own work-arounds to these issues after paying several hundred dollars for the watch! Not sure why Garmin isn't addressing this.

  • Just had the opportunity to do a treadmill training for the first time using beta 15.11. The measurement started instantly.

  • It got cold again where I live, so I too was sent back to the treadmill. I'm still seeing the issue on beta 15.11. As a reminder, this is my second unit since they warranteed the first one because of this issue. Outdoor runs track just fine. There is no problem with steps or the accelerometer. The issue arose around the time they started with wrist-based run power. I've turned that off and tried recalibrating the watch with several 1mile/1.6km runs. That worked for a bit, but the watch won't like me do several calibrations in a row. I'm annoyed that this is something I'll just have to live with until they get around to patching. Rant over.

  • This is so anoying. I wonder why there is no official reply from Garmin and when they are gonna fix this....For a such expensive watch having press start stop multiple times is frustrating. How long do you guys need to wait after start stop? For me sometimes just once start stop does not work

  • In my experience it's completely hit or miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Oddly, lately I've noticed that the distance isn't far off the treadmill distance by the end of some runs. Still some others are completely off. I get dropouts and misreadings and then an occasional good run.

It's cold here again today so I'm heading to the gym shortly. We shall see what today holds.
