14.20 Training Effect bug again?

So, I remember there was some issues with the training focus of a workout some time ago. I think I at least was effected by too high load numbers, but todays long run:

20km with easy-mod pace, HR within Z2 and I get 4.0 High aerobic focus. Did venture into Z3 for a total of 37 seconds

Anyone else?

  • 4.0 on TE doesn't mean "high aerobic/high anaerobic focus". It means "highly impacting" for aerobic/anaerobic. A long run at can still give you >4 aerobic TE if you "consume" enough stamina potential. Aerobic TE is more or less tied to stamina potential. I don't know how anaerobic TE is calculated but it's probably somewhat related to the rate and frequency at which your stamina deviates from your stamina potential.

  • This makes sense. Consider the graph here:

The aerobic TE is the bit where the line (Potential) matches the direction of the top of the green area (Stamina), and the anaerobic TE is related to where they move apart, as in the right hand side of the graph.

This was a short (13 minute) steady run, followed by a recovery period, then two short sprints (200m or so) with a recovery period between them.

It was scored as a Base run with 2.5 Aerobic TE and 1.8 Anaerobic TE.

  • Thanks for your reply, makes sense! Although I forgot to add that it labeled it as Threshold training and "highly impacting Lactate threshold". I would still rate this as a base run and in regards to that, "impacting Tempo" would make more sense, no?

  • Yeah the classification of the workout (base/tempo/threshold/vo2max/etc.) sometimes seems a bit off. In my experience it tends to be overly aggressive. So I've done workouts that I thought would have been labeled as base, but end up being tempo/threshold. I don't pay too much attention to these labels. The load/TE numbers are much more useful.
