I've been trying to fix a problem with my watch for the last 1 month, and I decided to share my 1 month adventure with you. There is a TLDR in the end, but I strongly reccommend read all, there are some gems in this adventure.
With the major relase v14.xx some UI/UX design changes happened on our watch. One of them was Timer screen, they inverted the background color white to black. Now it is less readable in dark environments. I think this is a bug, but I believe Garmin engineers would say "It is a feature".
Another affected area was the workout's rest screen. If you set up a workout, or just tried a preconfigured workout you might seen a rest screen when you press the lap button. This rest screen's functionality is showing the remaining rest time and inform you about the following exercise and it's details. With the v14.xx Garmin UI/UX designers decided to break this good old rest screen. And now they are saying it is a feature!!!
I contacted Garmin support with their official Twitter account. I explained the problem. The main problem I experience, when I do strength training the old rest screen had the all info about the next set ie: workout name, reps count and most importantly weight. Weight is the important one because they decided not to put this information in the new rest screen.
Let's see what is the new rest screen looks like and one of my conversatation screenshot with Garmin Support fella and me.
As you see, I provided all the info they asked. I uploaded my watch's files and folders to reproduce this situatuon on their side.
After this conversatation I waited 1 week. Then Garmin Support reached me via twitter message and asked me what was the old version the rest screen worked fine. With this question I realized how Garmin engineers are incapable of doing anything. Beacause you should not ask this information to your end user. How the people should know what is the previous version of their watch is.
Here's the proof that they asked the previous version of my watch!
My proffession is software. I am a software engineer. But god, I don't know anything about Garmin's software. But believe me, I found out in 1 hour what's the previous version of my watch. I downloaded Garmin SDK, converted an old activity file to a csv file and boom it's there. All activities logging with the version it is running on that day. And you're saying me Garmin engineers are incapable of doing this? That must be a joke.
Then after 2 weeks I couldn't wait any longer and asked. They said both the old and new rest screen looks similar. That's a LIE. And they need more complaints. My complaint isn't enough for them!!
And this was my reply to this!
SPOILER ALERT!!! I found the old rest screen's photo!! I took it because there was another bug in the rest screen. A buggy line across the screen. But it is not important you can clearly see what kind of info the screen had.
See. Workout name, reps and WEIGHT.
Garmin engineers said the old and the new rest screen looks similar. You're the judges, are they similar? Where is the weight info in the new?
So right now I am again in the waiting stage. Garmin Support attached this old screen photo to the ticket. I'm looking forward to what garmin engineers will say this time. I wonder if they will say that the weight information was removed on purpose?
Let's wait and see...
TLDR: They removed weight information on the strength training rest screen in the v14.xx. And they are not intend to put it back.
