It‘s time we make ourselves heard

The firmware for the FR 955/255 is in shambles. It has become clear that Garmin is either unable or unwilling to fix the situation. There‘s hardly any functionality that is not affected by a bug. Core functionalities like LTH detection have never worked correctly to begin with or are getting destroyed with the new software versions. The beta program a joke. Longstanding bugs are ignored, new bugs are introduced with each release even if they have been reported during the beta.

Perhaps worst of all, Garmin communication is abysmal. The moderators don‘t even pretend anymore that they care about the reported bugs. There‘s hardly any acknowledgement of bugs, there is no transparency regarding the progress and future plans on fixing bugs.

It has become clear that Garmin doesn‘t care. They have our money, and for most of us it will be difficult to return our watches.

What we can do though is warn others who are thinking about buying one of these watches. Please make yourself heard on the sites of big and small vendors. Leave a review with an appropriate rating describing the situation. Remember that on some shops, you can also change your initial review to reflect the ongoing experience.

Maybe write a comment about your experience when DC Rainmaker writes another glowing review of the next new and shiny Garmin watch.

Let‘s make ourselves heard in the only language that Garmin understands. They can‘t keep getting away with this.

  • agreed. it is kindof understandable that on first release there were some issues. after a few months FWv12 seemed to have things starting to settle into a working device. then from v13 things have just gotten worse and worse.

I've reported numerous bugs to garmin support. After months where it seems like I am putting more work into resolving these issues than garmin is, I have no progress – this is getting ridiculous! It was back in July I first logged issues with battery drain. 8 months with a defective device, constantly working to try to get resolution and instead encountering more and more issues. Now they are about to supersede the 955 with a 965 already so I have an expensive, outdated device that has never worked properly!

The 965 will likely have the same software base as the 955 so will be no better. garmin will however rake in lots more money when everyone goes out and buys one assuming they can trust garmin not to release a faulty product. we should really know better after then index 2 fiasco.

  • Decent hardware, technology, firstbeat research but it is a shame that the software department has put Garmin in.

I wonder if their CEO has ever read anything from this forum.

  • Good idea . " I have been using this watch for a couple of months now" as always i send it back...bla bla bla, nothing wrong here. Dc Rainmaker are Garmin's best friend.

  • Garmin, opposed to other famous brands, it's a hardware company.

They make most of their money selling devices (not primarily from selling software / services).

Other famous brand that was (until very recently) primarily a HW company always understood that HW+SW must excel together.

Garmin strategy POV now seems to be:

    - we are going to marketing new hw+sw features for newer devices very often

    - the HW is going to be the best in market.

    - the software and firmware it's going to be *** and broken.

    - users will buy newer models , not because new features are actually needed, but because their watches are faulty

  • $$ go to youtubers that swear watches work fine, what you on about? :) better than getting those moneeeys to developers and engineers and fix the issues i guess.

i got a refund for my 955 Solar since I constantly had issues with it with freezes, bugs and whatnot and eventually it turned off and never booted back up, (took 4 weeks + for garmins service to get an answers and afaik my retailer decided i should not wait any more) worst product by garmin by a longshot. maybe 965 will address issues, tho i am in the market for a new watch I have strong trust issues now. I like the analytics and Connect app, but not sure i wanna go down the same hole with them again, maybe Polar? IDK ... maybe i should go back to charging every day or two with a WORKING WearOS watch...

  • I think the biggest problem here is that they already releasing the 965. I mean no one else freaked out by this?
They really going to let this watch go down like this? No new features, no stable, less buggy and less laggy software?
The 955 is in shambles, it has the worst reputation by far from Garmin, and NOT even a YEAR after the release, they come out with a new Forerunner?
Not even Apple does that, and appearantly that's who Garmin wants to really compete? Yeah, good luck with that.
I mean how insulting is this? The 955 was a premium, expensive flagship runner watch with serious issues that they never truly addressed, we never got great new features,
bugs that were there at release are STILL present! Maps are TRASH! And their answer to this is to buy an even more expensive watch? Is this serious?

I could guarantee the 965 is gonna have a different software again, going to get updates differently, and this watch only 8 months after release
dies a really ugly death thanks to Garmin's greed and *** developers.
Shame on you Garmin for spitting in the faces of Forerunner users!

  • I wouldn't put it past Garmin to abandon the 955/255 in this completely desolate state and just laugh all the way to the bank, but to be honest I don't think this is going to happen on account of the 265/965. It seems pretty clear to me that they are meant to be a "parallel" model with Amoled display, not the direct succesor to the current series of watches (ie. like FR 255/955 have been to the x45 watches). So I think support for the 955/255 will continue over the normal life cycle of the watch (approx 3 years?). If they'll ever manage to salvage the firmware in that time is another question of course...

  • Their naming scheme sucks if it's not a successor, because the numbers absolutely imply that.
Also the design is just so much improved, it seems like what the 955 should have been...
Software wise it absolutely depends if it's the same software on those watches or not. If they match, then we could get updates the same time as the 965, like the Fenix/Epix does, which I would be fine with actually, if not which I suspect is going to happen since that didn't happen with 945/55 either then their focus will be on them and our updates going to be even slower and buggier. I'm not saying they not gonna give updates to this watch, but there's a difference between support if it's just a few bug fixes every few months and actually improving the software and user experience kind of support..

  • I hope I am right, but I understand your concers, I also lost all trust in Garmin. We will have to wait and see how this one plays out.

  • In my opinion, during the covid period, the Forerunner series lost its course, 945 lte only released in some parts of the world, SW with bugs and very slow development (among other things on 745 case), 955 with new case and SW still with bugs , now after 9 months 965 returning to the standard size 935/945 but with a beautiful display, it seems they no longer know what to do to chase the market but ignoring the SW which is now fundamental, like selling a pedal Ferrari, inconceivable. They play on the fact that people immediately buy a new product based on reviews induced by gifts to influencers.
