The watch start to freeze from 14.15

For the last week, the watch was frozen for me 4-5 times. I didn't have the issue before I think it started from the 14.15 release.

  • Do you have an app or watch face from Connect IQ installed?

  • The new software already includes the new IQ system 6 and not all applications are optimized. try uninstalling all apps and see if the clock continues to freeze.

  • For today I had it 3 times:

I removed all non standard watch faces.

    1) I stared bike activity and after 2mins the watch was frozen. I turn it off and was not able to turn it on just a black screen I tried to turn it on for 5-10mins and give up. but after 20-25mins the watch turn on without my interaction.

    2) I started a run and the watch frozen after 6secs. after 35mins of run they didn't unfreeze. I turn it off and lucky they turn on after that.

    3) 5 mins before writing this post, the watch stuck again. I turn it off and still not able to turn it on. Poop

I think Garmin should rollback the firmware this is so lagy. also We shouldn't blame the 3rd party devs if they didn't upgrade their apps, because this is 100% Garmin environment and they should make sure it's back compatible or don't allow to execute new apps/.. if apps were build with old SDK.

I don't know what the root cause of the issue but this is not acceptable for high end watches, also based on other issues on this forum. And Garmin should change the development/distribution process to deliver stable watch/OS/SDK.

  • if you mean hold and press top left(light) button, yes. but for 1 and 3 the watch didn't turn on. they turned on by them self later.

I removed all apps/data fields/... connect IQ show my one application and this is Connect IQ. and the watch was frozen even after that. this is the 4th time for today. so the problem is not with 3rd party apps.

  • just checked the issue started from 14.15 for me(the last Friday 17.02) and I did a hard rest after that. but the issue still continue and I have installed 14.17.

is it possible to downgrade firmware because I can't use the watch at all

  • System downgrade is not possible (yet). Interesting, I have a 955 solar, my wife a 955 without solar, and we haven't noticed a single freeze. I would try factory setting the watch and if that doesn't help, complain about the watch.

  • sorry, when I wrote hard reset I meant factory reset .  I didn't the last Friday and it didn't help.

    I followed this guide:

    1. Press and hold the Light button, Start Stop button, and Back button at the same time until you listen to the first beep.
    2. After the first beep, leave the Start Stop button, but keep holding the Light button and Back button.
    3. Once you hear the second beep, leave the Back button.
    4. Now you will see the master reset process taking place on the Watch’s screen.

I lost all data and the issue still exist.

are you Garmin employee? I need a some kind of solution/workaround for my case, because I'm not able to use it. I'm happy to provide debug information if needed

  • No, I am not a Garmin employee. I am a regular user. Apart from you, no one on the forum is complaining about my watch freezing.
