[14.17] BUG: Navigation to saved location broken

Another update and again not fixed!

Key feature already broken for too long. Easily reproducible, should be easily fixable. Come on already!

-----

When starting navigation using a saved location it results in the following error:

"Route calculation error. Missing routable roads in this area."

This for any activity, also after a restart.

This worked fine before, other navigation options (select point on map, points in the neighbourhood, etc) work fine, just the 'saved locations' results in the error above.

Broken since 14.08 beta, reported just as many times. Nothing changed... really, what the ***.

  • Will that reroute you though? Cause with courses I don’t get auto reroute?

Thanks for the tip though useful until we get a fix

  • Ah, hadn't thought of this one myself either.

Cumbersome and annoying, but at least a work around... Tnx

Nevermind, alsobroken. It doesn't actually seem to create a route? Just getting a straight line from a to b (point 1 is current location, point 2 the saved location) so this is also not working?

Checked the settings and those are fine... Sigh

  • Please give it a try first because for me it doesn't seem to work either, it doesn't actually calculate a route and I just get a straight line (guess that kinda is in line with no navigation options to a saved location).

And no, I don;t think it would reroute IF it even worked... Courses are fixed, you just get a warning when you are off the course.

  • When you create a new course, on the "navigate" screen, in the options, set Routing - Courses: use a map, then it draws a course,, not a straight line

  • Even after changing it from "Follow Course" to "Use Map" I still get a straight line...

Only when selecting a location on the map itself navigation works properly. (Which is pretty ironic, as when the watch was released it was specifically this feature being broken)

  • I get a straight line as well with the workaround suggested
this is one of those functions that I would use only once in a while but a reason to have maps. Without this what’s the reason to spend more to have maps and memory on the watch?? Also I can imagine other folks needing this all the time

  • My navigation looks like this :  " https://postimg.cc/hh8mZh23 "

  • Wish mine would look like that... You're also on 14.17?

No clue what I'm missing then, whatever I try nothing is working.

Just to get things clear (for me ;) ):

    1. If you try to navigate to a saved location (in an activity -> menu -> navigation -> saved location -> pick one -> go to) also gives the 'Route calculation error'?

    2. Activty (-> Menu) -> Navigation -> Courses -> Create New -> Add Location -> Saved Location (once for start, once for end) -> Done  is working for you? Showing the route you show above?

    I did change the:

Run -> Menu -> Run Settings -> Routing -> Courses to "Use Map"...

But I still get the straight line regardless, anything I'm missing?

    So frustrating this...

  • These workarounds have not worked for me either. I still get the error message or the straight line when creating a new course. I’ve even deleted and reinstalled all of the maps. Strange that Garmin has managed to break a key function of this watch, yet the 945’s mapping still works flawlessly.

Sidebar: The “Use Map” function for courses has never worked for me on the 955. My understanding (and the way it worked on the 945) is that, while following a course, if you deviate far enough from the course, it will use the map to reroute you back to the nearest point on the original course. Instead, it has been creating an entirely new course to the finish point and completely disregarding the original route.

  • Yes, I am 14.17
    1. Exactly, I have this error too
    2. Activity (-> Menu) -> Navigation -> Courses -> Create new -> Add location -> (add CURRENT LOCATION first and then SAVED LOCATION)
A straight line will appear on the "Course" screen, press Start and Navigate.
It draws a course s as in the picture above.
    Good luck
