bad accuracy for indoor swimming activity.

the indoor swim active calculation is very bad. it can't detect the free style well. the distance calculation is also bad. I swim 1500m in a 50m pool and stop the watch; it always end with 1550m or even 1650m. with extremly high speed with some of the 50m lap. Does anyone see similar issue?

  • So, I have to be lucky too. Today another 100x25m freestyle with no pause (as I usually do 2x week) and 955 recorded 2500m

  • I have already reported this problem. The problem is too much sensitivity to changes. It's enough that I have to dodge a bit when someone swims opposite in the same lane and is already counting the next lap. It would be enough to add the lap pool function.

  • I get 100% accuracy nearly all the time. When it counts an extra lap, it was for the reasons stated. Like most watches, it uses accelerometers, so any acceleration/deceleration will trigger a new lap. The only way around this (which I favor) would be to allow user input into the minimum time to trigger a new lap, which might help. But even then it may differ from sprinting vs distance sets.

  • I use the F3b swim application where you can mark each lap by pressing back. The application itself shows incorrect values. but after saving the activity everything is fine.

  • Agree, like you would select your best 25m/50m and then it will know how long it usually takes. But what then, when you are changing styles withing one length and not doing flipturns? Probably a magnetometer could help, not sure if it can work reliably in water...

For me it is quite impressive that it can detect styles, knows when when I did a turn even it is measuring one handed workous which 935 was not able to detect.

  • For me accuracy is good as well. Also after swimming few times in the swimming pool watch can record almost ideally distance without gps on open water. Same was for my 945.

  • I always swim using workout. I push LAP button after every interval(25 or 50 or 100 or ...), and I usually use countdown rest time before start again.

No problem with my 955 solar.

  • Ok, ok, I know I'm slow swimmer. That's why I need a watch to improve my swim skill for the coming Triathlon event.

My swim record is as above. That was an indoor swim at a 50m pool. swimming in freestyle all the time without change.

this time it is the first lap; I presumption my 955 somehow counts I finished 1st 100m while I was in the middle of the first 50m swim.

yeah, you can say my Freestyle is not standard or I probably swim with bad technique. but after that wrongly first lap; everything is just ok.

I have also disabled the "auto swim style detection feature" on my 955 'cause it always show my style changed every lap. and that really hurt because I swim freestyle all the time...

I have swim with my 955 3~4 times after change from my another smart watch. and this issue happens every swim; randomly in the beginning, in the middle, or in the end of the swim. There was no swimmer nearby for this activity. I don't have issue with my smart watch before.

  • That's the problem. If you had to turn off auto style detection it's because your style maybe is very bad. On 100 pools of 25m my 955 signs freestyle for each one. And I'm not fast, my pace is about 1:57/100m

  • Then how to explain this only happen sometime in the whole active instead of every lap if this was because bad freestyle?

This is the first swim I have with my 955 and the auto style detection is ON:

This active had correct style detection during this whole active but it still has wrong counting at 6th lap.

This is one of swim I got wrong swim style detection. the wrong counting is still in the middle of 1st lap.

I swim all the same freestyle but it failed to detect it correctly.

Miky, that's  good for you since you spend the same money and get everything works fine. but not mine. So please don't focus on my swim technique; I'm not pro for sure but if I need to have a "standard" Freestyle to have this watch detect it correctly and not to count the lap wrongly or detect the style correctly. I'll say the algorithm sucks.
