bad accuracy for indoor swimming activity.

the indoor swim active calculation is very bad. it can't detect the free style well. the distance calculation is also bad. I swim 1500m in a 50m pool and stop the watch; it always end with 1550m or even 1650m. with extremly high speed with some of the 50m lap. Does anyone see similar issue?

  • Sure, If you have a bad technique, changing styles or speed during one length or doing one hand workouts, or you hit something it can be detected as a turn. If you know the limitations, so for such speed/one hand workouts you need to use Drill Log and then you are good.

  • Check your style and technique. I do 100x25m freestyle twice a week and zero problems

  • I would say that I have pretty good technique, and swim speed (can easily do 14:30 at 1000m in 50m pool) and this is my 5th Garmin watch in 10 years. I had every watch from 910 onwards. Never had any issues in lap pool until 955. Literally every continuous swim above 500m is wrong. I ended just swim in drill mode. I have latest SW and for me this is unacceptable. I have some test on Wednesday (one hour non stop swim at race pace) and I don’t know how to perform it. I really can’t count 80 or so laps. Garmin has to do something with this as I see that I am not the only one

  • Well, I won't say I'm a pro swimmer but I believe my swim technque is not that bad.

I had Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 just before the 955 solar and there is no problem with Samsung Galaxy watch 4 for indoor swimming at all. I'm not sure if this is just special case for my 955 solar or not.

  • Hi BojanDjuric,

I've called Garmin customer service; they ask for sending the watch back to check but it will take 7 working days. I'll probably send my watch back to check since I'm not the only one. I'll keep posted if I have any result from Garmin.

  • This is my second 955. First was solar, this one is “regular”. One. Same issues with both of them. Don’t think that getting the new one change anything

    thanks for the answer

  • Same problem with FR945 and current FR955. I doubt it will be a watch.

  • I have the same issue with the FR 955. I have been using it for the last month and I have seen a lot of times adding pool lengths. What I have found is that it is very sensitive to wrist movements: If I twist my wrist to check my HR, it adds a full length; if I accidentally hit the lane line while swimming backstroke (and my hand movement is not complete), it adds a full pool length.
I think that it's a matter of software which could be resolved.

  • Today's training was 3500 m and 955 measured 3500 m, so again 0 problems.

  • Than you’re in luck. I am sure that technique is not a problem since I usually exit the water first or at least in top 5 in my AG, and every single Garmin watch so far was good. If you search the forums you’ll see that’s hundreds of examples of inaccuracy in the pool. Something is wrong for sure. Hardware/software…and don’t know…
