Garmin, please unify Fenix and Forerunner firmware!

I would like to have the Fenix firmware in a lightweight plastic case. 955 could be the perfect candidate, but it differs in so many aspects from the Fenix family in terms of software. Why? Why is there no option in your product portfolio which offers the exact same functionality than the Fenix lineup, but with a plastic case like the 955? :( I want to love my 955, but it lacks so many interesting features of the Fenix. Why?

  • This allows Garmin to sell different watches with different sets of bugs. Beats having 1 set of faults to fix. Keep buying more watches to get the full set of bugs.

  • The reason is probably internal structures at Garmin which the company is unwilling to change. Fenix is part of the Outdoor division, Forerunner belongs to Sports. Of course it makes no sense to let independent teams develop firmwares which are 95% identical, for watches which have 100% identical hardware (just in a different case). They must have a faint idea that this is one of the main causes for the low software quality and combing forces would therefore be a wise idea. But within such companies there is a bubble, unconnected to the outside world. And in this bubble there is a strong belief it needs to be exactly the way it is.

  • very good proposal. The only reason to choose the FR955 over de Fenix is the lower weight plastic case, which is much prefered for running and biking over the heavier metal Fenix line. Due to low cost plastic material, the price of the FR955 is also lower. Other than the case, there is no need at all for the differentiation of the fenix vs teh FR955.
I would welcome a single Fenix Firmware for both the Fenix and FR955 , which would allow the software teams at Garmin's to join force and give both product lines a much better quality software, which serves both the fenix and the FR line. Alternative: relabel the FR955 to a Fenix 7p (for plastic) and give thie Fenix 7p the Fenix firmware
