[BUG 14.15] Activity "crashes" back to Watchface

Got version 14.15 fresh today.
Then soft reset, and new pairing in the GC app.

During a 20min walk, the activity jumped back to the Watchface several times with the error message "media error" ("Medienfehler" in German..). In the background, the activity continues, but no GPS is recorded.

Hereafter soft reset again.
Again started a walking activity, after 2min the same error, resumed to activity-screen, 5 minutes later the same...

EDIT: No Media was played, there wasn´t even a connection to headphones.

EDIT2: Tryed with Cardio-activity: Error after 3 Minutes......

EDIT3: Tried out different things, what have worked is switched my Watchface to a Regular one. Since than no Problems. Switching back to custom "Quatro"-Watchface, problems appeared again.

  • I recommend that whenever you want to report a bug in the future, you make sure you don't have an alternative background image or app from Connect IQ installed. Just because it worked for you so far without problems does not mean it will work with the new version and especially not if the update includes a new version of Connect IQ (currently CIQ system 6)

  • One the one hand, you're right. I should have set everything to default, upload the details of the installed system components (since there are differences depending on being beta user or not), maybe add some system dumps, screenshots, videos, put a sample of my poop in an envelope and send it somewhere.

On the other Hand, I'm just guy with a +500euro Fitnesstracker, who usually wouldn't care about the above things. I bought a watch, used the stuff the manufacturer offered me in the store, it worked a long time, and now it doesn't.

I just thought, it might be still helpful showing the progress to get rid of this problem to others. In my view, the normal user isn't aware that the version of the ciq System, which is maybe used by wStuck out tongue winking eyehatever else,  is affecting the record of an activity, or may result in an error as posted above . :-)

  • I agree with you. However, you can see for yourself, but it is difficult with Garmin. They offer an app store and one should not be afraid to use them.

  • You are right. We'll see what's get next. Told the creator.of the watchface also about the issue, because I really like his work and I dunno on which site the problem is. There are no specials things or custom data  in the watchface. So on the first sight, I didn't saw a Connection between the watchface, and the error.

  • I'm seeing this exact same behavior on the 255 Music (14.13 firmware).  Even just using the Hydration activity triggers it. I only got it a few days ago so thinking of sending it back as there seem to be all sorts of quirks.

  • So I guess this bug is related to a specific CIQ app.

  • Ideally, when installing new firmware, Garmin should check third-party applications installed on the watch for compatibility with the current CIQ and inform the user of possible problems.

  • That's not going to be possible and practical for Garmin.

  • I have the Same Problem and hast contact with garmin support. I ha to remove my 3rd party watchface. Since the removal i had no problem with Media error. Im testing ist further - after 4 activities - no problem.

i have version 14.20 installed and the watchface i used was „Enduro Like Plus“.

now i am using a default watchface and i mean garmin could do it more configurable.
