[BUG] Training Status - Maintaining

Hello Garmin,

I consider the Training status function still broken.

My training status has been stuck in Maintaining since the beginning of December, even though the acute load, the load focus and HRV have been in the optimal range. To improve my fitness, I did different workouts (low aerobic, high aerobic and anaerobic), and I am sure my training has been pretty productive - my VO2 max is higher, my estimated times are down, I can run faster at lower HR etc - see the pictures.

Could you please fix this persisting bug?

Thank you in advance.

Tomas

  • I think it only shows Productive when your Acute Load is in the upper 5% of the optimal band. It doesn't seem to look at the slope of the graphs.

  • No idea how Garmin determines training status, but you don't need your acute load to be anywhere near the top of the optimal band to register as Productive. My status has registered as Productive even when the acute load was in the lower half of the optimal band. In the winter I do a lot of my workouts on treadmill and I've noticed that if I was at Productive and I do several days of treadmill workouts in a row, my status will drop back to Maintaining. I'm guessing this is because Garmin assumes that since it can't get VO2 max for indoor workouts, that I couldn't possibly be improving during that time.

  • FYI and FWIW, I looked at my last treadmill run , and I can see on the data into Runalyze that the Garmin files do indeed contain a VO2 datapoint for that . I do use an HRM-PRO for the treadmill. It did also show a VO2 datapoint for the Circuit I did thereafter with no HRM-PRO  on. The VO2 figs are different to the run the preceding day (in the second decimal)

  • I am not sure you need to be in the upper 5% .. according to this article https://www.garmin.com/en-US/blog/fitness/ask-expert-training-load/:

  • I have the same issue with my Marq Athlete Gen 2. Training status stuck on Maintaining since 23 December 2022. I ended my most recent run (today) with a performance condition + 6 (started + and further increased during the run) and still Maintaining.

  • You have to train harder.

I was stuck too at "Maintaining" for 5 months. Then I've increased numbers and difficulty of trainings and reached "Productive" and "Peak", with VO2max increased from 57 to 59 in 6 weeks

  • I agree. Its broken.

Only way to get productive training status is to rapidly increase your training load. When following normal training plan or even garmin's own suggestions vo2max will increase 0.1 units per run or so and thats not enough to trigger productive status. You can see the vo2max changes in runalyze.com. I dont believe garmin algorithm will give you +2 vo2max within 6 weeks. Maybe if you changed watch or sth and your estimation was totally underestimated.

  • Why don't you belive me? I have FR 955 since november.

Runalyze gives other (more realistic) values, but it confirms my progress.

    So, train better yourself

You have to train hard to improve, if you sleep you will not improve
