Has anyone found a way to delete a race from the race widget…

I succeeded. Write here a link to that race. I know that I had to unsubscribe from that event (not just from the calendar)

Did I understand correctly that you created the events?

Yes I added an event to the calendar , not an event that was on the Garmin list. I then deleted the event from the calendar. One of them has deleted in the widget , others not.

and that will be a problem. I had the same problem when I created the Me event. Try to find the given event in the courses (not the name of the race, but the name of the course). if you find it, add it to the calendar again and then cancel it

Ok let me give that a try. I have the courses that I made saved.

It deleted the new one I added but not the prior one. I wonder if it was because I deleted on the web site initially and not the app, although that should theoretically still work. Ah well we shall have to wait until some fix or get past the date. Its also unfortunate one cannot delete the event after selecting it in the widget.

I thought you may be a resource that could assist me. 

I can see in the calender.fit file (in the Calendar Subfolder on the Device) is a list of the races that appear on the race calendar , including the ones that should be deleted.

1. Do you think that if one can edit it out of the .fit file and replace the .fit file it will solve the problem?

2. What is the best tool to use to do this . There are many .fit file viewers but to edit and save is a more complex job I guess.
