Stepping back audiobooks via media controls with Audible all of a sudden goes back to start of chapter

I routinely listen to audiobooks from my phone via headphones while out running, and up to now have controlled playback via my 955 Solar (and 245 before that).  I generally have to rewind several seconds if I miss a key part of the book because of a complex road crossing, or I'm distracted or whatever.

Up to now, using that "step back" media control option has rewound the audio book by a few seconds.  When playing the book via Audible on my phone, this has used the default step back time (default I think is 30 seconds).  Ideal.

However overnight, something has changed.... yesterday when I went for my run all was as usual.  Today (having made no changes to setup whatsoever), using the step back option on my watch makes the audiobook go back to the beginning of the chapter.  Depending on the book this can be several 10s of minutes.  It is like whatever command is sent from the watch to the phone has moved from "step back" to "previous chapter".   It makes controlling the audiobook a lot less useful from the watch - a significant degradation in functionality from my perspective.

Given that I've changed nothing, I've looked at app updates.  Garmin Connect has not changed since Dec, my watch firmware is 13.23.  Audible has updated recently, but a few days ago.  I tried controlling my phone/Audible via other control means (i.e. when connected to car, or headphones) and it behaves as it used to... so the 955 seems to be the exception here.

Is anyone else encountering a similar problem and/or got any idea as to how to overcome it?  As noted, the lack of easy ability to rewind.. a bit... from the watch is not a good set for me.

Thanks
