Issues with Pool Workouts on 955 solar

Ever since the new firmware update to add the really unnecessary running power, the 955 solar can not handle pool workouts at all.  When I sync the workout to my watch it looks fine when I view the session before starting but for all of the sessions over the past two months one of the following has happened

- During an interval the watch thinks I have completed that interval and automatically moves on to the rest between intervals. Then every length is counted as an interval / rest meaning the recording is useless.

- The watch manages the intervals and rest correctly but doesn't record the distance.  My session today of 6 x 200m worked fine but then did show any distance or intervals when loaded to Garmin connect

- The watch just stops working and has to be hard re-set to get it out of the locked state

I have tested the same workouts on the 944 forerunner and they worked perfectly so it is defiantly the watch.  There was a similar issue in the summer where the intervals would not work and then a firmware update sorted it until they added this stupid running power.  How can a running power measured at your wrist and not in the sole of your shoe be accurate?

  • Why do you think that running power has anything to do with pool swims?

  • Because it was working fine before they issued the last update that enabled the running power in just the watch alone and no need for an accessory.

For running power to be accurate it needs to measure the force output from your foot just as it does for cycling. Anything else is based on rubbish data to try and sell the new device.

  • Mine works perfectly. Times, distances, pool pool workouts...

  • My 955 solar is doing the same issue. Is the forth training is doing the same thing, it just stop counting the pools, I keep training on time count and in the end its like I did nothing aftee stopped! Today I swan 2200 m but it just register 1200, last week it stopped in the begining, guess only mark 125 m from a 2100 m pratice. My firmware is updated, so do not know how to troubleshoot, does anyone has a tip?

  • The only thing I have found is that it happens on workouts that I have had saved in Garmin Connect for years. If I go into the workout on Garmin connect and change something, hit save and re-sync to the watch it then seems to work with the 955.

but this is a pain in the *** to do.

  • Mine happened with new trainings, today I include the pratice half of hour before (got from my training peaks and put it manually to have the pools and pace well detailed), I do this for years and never happened with my old 935. Last week the second time it happens was in the beginning, so not even 1 m was marked...

  • I got the 955 solar mostly for tracking/recording and maps during trails and open water long swims. Looked forward all the nice “features". Upon reception I was not pleased with the frustrating interface, and the useless dynamics (sleep etc etc). 14.15, not keen in upgrading to get things even worse...
I train in a pool, and I’ve noticed a few very basic issues:
    • Would randomly stop recording. Some days are worse than others, not sure why (battery level?). I normally try to pause and resume. Sometimes it works, but I loose the overall count: resumes distance from 0, not sure why, it makes no sense (running or trail resumes counting where it paused). When I load the activity, I do get the total recording (before and after pause), minus the “not recording” time.
    • Misses turns. Ive noticed lengths with twice the time and strokes than normal, so I guess it misses the turns, but keeps counting.
    • My stroke/length count is pretty regular: 6-7 strokes in a 20m pool. The watch will record anything from 4 to 18 strokes (for a length time, not double). 4 strokes over 20m? What a laugh...
Missing strokes or turns at that level of electronics/sensors/price is far beyond incompetence.
To some extent, I have better experiences in open water long swims, but is hard to say how much could be missing. Distance seems ok (google earth).
Got used to the clunky interface, so I can use the maps during an activity (“use" as in zoom and pan to see where I’m going).
I can vouch that this is my last Garmin. The marketing (or YouTubers) didn’t explain we have to spend our lives monitoring a forum awaiting for upgrades, that may either upgrade or degrade our watches. It is totally ridiculous, one of the worse tech experiences in a long time...
  • I've had an issue that my watch just stops recording distance. I've had to factory reset it twice now for i to start working
