Feature Request: Auto Lap by Position

Even 10 year old Garmin watches had this useful feature to count your laps each time you pass the starting point.

The latest models have highly accurate GPS chips which ensure perfect working of this feature, as already demonstrated by RunSafe+, a paid CIQ app which does have this feature.

Garmin must bring this feature back which was removed for reasons unknown.

P.S. Post edited with 2 images showing the option does exist on at least two modern Garmin wearables.

Turns out FR745 and Fenix 7 have this feature included as an auto lap option called "Auto Position". It's also mentioned in the Fenix 7 Owners Manual under Auto Lap. FR745 manual does not mention it however it is present. This is a very rudimentary option and the new multi-band GPS make it work like clockwork.

Garmin-Kevin can you please share some information regarding this elusive feature? Thanks in advance.

thanks for replying, I double checked “auto lap” setting on my fr745 but I can only see “auto distance” instead of “auto position”, any idea how to make that option available for selection?

I think you mean that you double checked on your 955. Yes, 955 doesn't have this feature hence this thread. Only 745 and Fenix 7 have this feature.

I have used autolap by positon often on the indoor speedskate ring (on my FR610) . I support this feature request

I cannot even fathom why the 955 doesn’t have this feature. Was trying to setup today as my old watches had it, was very confused

i'd say firstly they should tell us why it was removed. given that it has been available previously (and still is on edge units) there is likely some practical issue with it that we are not aware of so maybe we don't want it. in usual garmin fashion though, they just do what they think rather than communicate with their customers
