13.22 - Training Load Not Using Cycling Activities

I can see the history of my cycling activities, via Zwift, on my watch.  However, the training status and training load only seems to be using my running activities.  Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • double record. My experience is that if you only record on Zwift, TrainerRoad, etc... you don't get a lot of metrics, only the basic ones.

  • I disagree, in my experience both Zwift and TrainerRoad synchronize Tranining Status and Training Load to Connect and it is reflected on the watch. There would be no need to double record. It is not expected that this does not work.

  • Thanks.  It’s definitely not picking it up so I’ll try tech support.

  • No issue for me. For example this morning i forgot to start recording the activity with the watch but at the end of it zwift uploaded the activity to connect and then connect syncronized it with the watch. In this case just the basic parameters like heart rate and power, no graphs or detailed stats. This activity then was used to calculated the training load automatically.

  • I am having a similar issue. I recorded on my Edge 530 this morning but saw no update to my training load, status, recovery time, etc for my forunner 955. Very painful. I reached out to support and they just said let us know if it continues to happen :(.

  • Here is what I’ve found:

    1. If you simply use the broadcast heart rate feature of the watch, Zwift will pick it up and record data and send to the watch, however the watch will not recognize the information and use it in training load.

    2. If you select “Virtual Run” activity and select broadcast heart rate, Zwift will pick it up and record data and send to watch, this time the watch’s algorithm will include the data in training load.  I can’t remember but I don’t think you even have to start the activity just leave it open on the watch.  I believe you can do the same with “Bike Indoor” activity.  Probably as long as an activity is selected and you are broadcasting during the activity.  If you do have to start the activity, simply discard it when complete.  No need to actually double record.

    3. Garmin tech support sent me an HRM-Dual and of course this device independently connects to Zwift when the watch receives the data it will include it in the training load calculation.

perhaps Garmin should look into their software to determine why you cannot simply broadcast the heart rate to Zwift without using an activity app for it to be included in training load calcs.

I don’t have a cycling computer, but I’d bet if you are just broadcasting from the watch without using an activity app, that is the issue.
