13.22 Battery Drain

My watch updated from 13.21 to 13.22 this afternoon. After the update, the battery has fallen from 98% to 59% in less than five hours. No activities, no nothing. Just being worn. I’m now concerned it won’t last through my IM on Sunday. Anyone else with this issue?

  • Have you tried the following tipp from user ethcz from this thread: Battery Usage from 13.15 to 13.21 - Forerunner 955 Series - Running/Multisport - Garmin Forums

    1. power off the watch for at least 1-2 minutes.

    2. reset the watch (holding LIGHT for at least 15s). Syncing the watch right before that is a good idea to not loose recent data. HRV status history data stays intact (my experience).

    3. Reinstall the phone app (or just Clear storage and Clear cache is enough when on Android; no idea what to do on iphone). You will need to set up some things, as they do not persist in the watch - pair the watch again, enable permissions, add again custom Text and Call responses. That is what I remember, may be little bit more.

    I do 1+2 after every SW update and since the last two updates also 3. The need of setting up some of the things every time is worth the potential problems.

  • The same happend to me just after the update 13.21. Did 1 and 3 and the problem disappeared.

  • I had the same problem with 13.21, 10-12% battery draind per day. Last night I upgraded to 13.22 and only %8 battery drained in 24 hours. 13.22 looks more stable than the previous 13.21.

  • Turn the watch off for 60-90 secs and then turn back on after update. This has been a common issue for some people after almost every update and just doing this seems to fix the problem.

  • Thanks everyone. Performing 1 and 2 seems to have fixed the problem.

  • Having to “reset” your watch manually every time is NOT ok. I paid a lot of money for this watch and should not have to do I.T. and servicing on it. Garmin needs to find a fix for this watch software or replace it. It has been problems since release. Never had these problems on my 935, 310XT, Vivosmart or other watches.

  • Most of the time power cycling is a good enough fix.

    Factory reset can be a last resort. So far I didn't recall doing this since i got a 945 and 955 3.5 years ago.

  • I notice it once in a while/per charge. After the charge battery lasts, it loses I guess less than 4.5% a day...and then happens a period where it loses couple of % in a couple of hours. The watch is always in airplane mode. This morning it was on 44%, now 5-6 hours later is on 41% without touching a single button during that period. A bit frustrating.

  • 0.4-0.5% per hour is the normal consumption for me.

    BT = ON

    Lately, it's on the upper side.

  • After 24 hours, from yesterday lost 8%, from 44 to 36%...Did nothing different than usual. Checked 2-3 widgets, closed morning report and turned off and on the watch because of drain. I didn't even sync it with phone in last 2 days....and you can't determine what caused it. Frustrating. I know the battery is better than i.e. Apple Watch...but can't get near 18-20 days...when it has its own weird behavior twice during that period. I assume now, when it is below 50-40% it will drain faster than 4.5% a day.
