intensity goal

This is really annoying. I set up a workout with pace as the goal of intensity. Example from 3'40" to 3'45", during the interval it warns me that my speed is low, for example 3'50" but at the end the interval is 3'40". In practice I am always signaled a higher speed of about 10". Have you encountered the same problem?

  • I think GPS based pace calculation is at its limits of precision for short fast intervals. As  GPS sampling is 1 second minimum you need at least 2-3 seconds to estimate your speed if you are moving with constant speed in ideal case. But in the first few secs of interval you'r still accelerating and GPS has it's precision too whitch adds to the result.

Solution to it is only to use accelerometer based pace calculation such as HRM with running dynamics or food pod. Even those have its limits. I ended using Stryd and starting every interval 5+ seconds before interval starts to avoid start acceleration and allow the pod to catch up with the speed. Next gen Syryd claims to solve that, I didn't try it though.

  • As mentioned, the older garmin (245, 645 and 945)  watches didn't have the problem so Garmin change something on the way for structural workouts on the 955.

, Is it possible to use the code from previous watches to fix the pace on structured workouts on a future beta?
