Garmin running power vs. Stryd

Dear all,

since V13.21 the Forerunner calculates the running power natively (via the watch at the wrist itself).

Unfortunately this "collides" now with my Stryd pod.

I'm still able to see the Stryd power via the Stryd data field - but all the power data in Garmin Connect is now related to the native power itself.

It gets even worse when my coach enters an intervall into TrainingPeaks with goals for the Stryd Power... it gets synced to Garmin Connect and from there to my FR955. But of course the values does not match!

Question: is it possible to deactivate the power calculation on the FR955 and to use only (and for all) the Stryd power?

  • Stryd software has an power duration curve and automatic critical power calculation which adapts according your training. Measurements os Stryd are more accurate, especially distances. Also temperature, humidity, airresistance and grade are taken in consideration while you’re on the run. The raceprediction is pretty close based on you critical power, temperature and humidity on raceday and if used also the course you will run.

  • Garmin on a treadmill shows complete nonsense.
The treadmill pace for the intervals was 4:15 and 7:30. The Garmin watch in this case showed 4:50 and 6:35. Stryd in this case showed a pace of 4:20 and 7:35, taking into account the acceleration and deceleration of the treadmill. The calibration of the Garmin watch is useless for treadmill intervals, it will not correct the pace of intervals. So running power from Garmin at intervals is incorrect.

  • Unfortunately the proposed way to deactivate the Garmin power in activity settings does not work for me. Garmin still does the Power bit and overrides my Stryd data in TP or Strava. Any other recommendations to get entirely rid of Garmin power data?

  • Ferrari vs bike. Stryd is best in all. Garmin power is unuseful.

  • Stryd is the Gold standard. Power from wrist is bull ***…..

  • I completely disabled the native Garmin power in the "Run" activity settings, Stryd power is displayed normally in Strava and TrainingPeaks.

  • Thanks for your reply  Did you run using the native run app or did you run using the Stryd workout app on your watch? I normally use the workout app and there is no option to switch of run power from Garmin.

  • I am using the Garmin's native "Run" app and a simple data field "Stryd Zones | Data Field" from the Connect IQ. This data field has been added to the Data Screens. I have not tried the "Stryd Workout App".

Stryd (footpod) is more accurate than FR955 ("handpod")

  • the one big issue i'm finding with wrist based running tracking as opposed to stryd is that any time you're raising your wrist to actually look at the watch while running, say to glance at your pace or look at the map, you lose all tracking. it makes sense since the arm isn't moving, but it's still annoying when the foot pod is just constantly working as long as your feet are in motion...
