What do you think about HR sensor glass?

Hello guys, is there a documantation or information about the HR sensor glass? Like... Is it gorilla glass or something?

I believe it looks like it can be easily broken or get scratched. When the glass get damaged, our heart rate readings could be all messed up.

Am i being paranoid? Can someone with experience confirm any issue with the glass?

Thank you!

  • Hi, unfortunately the HR sensor glass can definitely get scratched, although not as easily as the older Fenix models where the sensor cover was made out of some kind of epoxy. I can say that with certainty as I own a Fenix 5 Plus and have owned a Fenix 7 for a few weeks. I was really careful with the sensor and only cleaned it, but regularly, with Kimwipes (cloths made specifically for delicate tasks like cleaning camera lenses - even asked Garmin if they are ok to use). Somehow I still collected a few very light scratches on the sensor glass. You can only see them with a really bright flashlight and even easier with a magnifying glass, but they are there. Garmin support says light scratches don't affect reading accuracy. Right now I trust them in that. I think these scratches cannot be completely prevented because 'glass is glass and glass breaks'...

  • I got the same. I have also asked a question on the forum. but can't really find out if it's bad or not.

  • I don't believe those scratches affect anything. The four optical HRM sensors just record the amount of light (they don't take a "picture" or anything), and minor scratches don't prevent that. And similarly the leds just shine light on the skin, minor scratches don't prevent that.
