Any showstopper issues with 955? Safe to buy? Big disappointments after the first months?

Any big issues with 955 that should prevent me from buying it? I saw some issues with BT and lines on screen, but this seems to be fixed. I' m not happy with GPS of F6 and display of F7 Sapphire is not working for me with the glare and low contrast.

What are be the big pro's of a Fenix 7 compared to a 955 other than Titan case, Sapphire (not for me anyway)? Will the 955 get update for the same time or is this much shorter for the Forerunner series?

  • I don't any fenix has ever had steel/titanium case. That would be Chronos/Marq.

  • Right, what i try to say Fenix is that the ear case is of metal thus that could be metallic doesn't work well with GPS and another problem is Sony GPS chipset flaw or its position.

  • At significant expense, I bought a new 955 recently (replacing an older Forerunner that had stopped working), which I mostly use for kayaking on the sea.  A big complaint for me: there IS NO OPTION to enter and SAVE coordinates (as a user waypoint or location) whilst older Forerunner models I've had could do this.

Yes, with difficulty (not user friendly), one can use the Map function to navigate to a place on land or the coastline and mark/save it with a name to navigate to later, but one cannot enter coordinates and save these!  Yes you can enter coordinates under Navigation in order to press Start to navigate to those coordinates right now ... but you cannot save them!!

This was confirmed to me in a chat a moment ago by a Garmin adviser.

I need to have a particular rock out at sea saved as a waypoint for navigation purposes (and this becomes a significant safety issue for a guy on a kayak in choppy cold waters, when fog occasionally comes in quickly and unexpectedly).  I have the coordinates but the watch does not allow me to save them!  The map function (for saving locations) does not show any detail in the ocean, so one cannot navigate to this rock on the Map function to save it as a location.

Trying to save it as a location when I am to balance out at sea is also not appealing ... but in any event, 3 of us long-time-Garmin-Forerunner-users could not work out how to save current location on my 955 once we were back on the beach!  So this is another important criticism. One would expect newer products to become easier to use, not harder.

Furthermore the Back to Start function (another important safety feature on a device like this) is not user friendly.  It is difficult to find, and when you do find it, it presents a barely visible small little arrow up against the edge of the watch face - hard to see, let alone follow whilst paddling ... not what you want when trying to navigate rocky coastline in fog back to the inlet you paddled out of.  On other devices, the back-to-start arrow is big and obvious, taking up most of the screen.

I find this mind boggling: they have overdone the "fancy functions" of the watch, like being able to add 1000 songs or tell you ho you slept last night (in case you don't know this already), whilst totally dropping the ball on 2 absolute fundamental functions of any waterproof GPS sports watch.

If you have any use for these functions, this is a dealbreaker in my opinion.

  • A big complaint for me: there IS NO OPTION to enter and SAVE coordinates (as a user waypoint or location)

Workaround: You can edit the coordinates of an existing saved location:

Navigate activity → Saved Locations → select a location → Position

Use Start to move forward and Back to move back, Up and Down change the digit/letter.

  • Great work around, thank you ... I didn't think of that!  Would have saved me a lot of time had I done so!
