Any showstopper issues with 955? Safe to buy? Big disappointments after the first months?

Any big issues with 955 that should prevent me from buying it? I saw some issues with BT and lines on screen, but this seems to be fixed. I' m not happy with GPS of F6 and display of F7 Sapphire is not working for me with the glare and low contrast.

What are be the big pro's of a Fenix 7 compared to a 955 other than Titan case, Sapphire (not for me anyway)? Will the 955 get update for the same time or is this much shorter for the Forerunner series?

  • Yes agreed , if one had to write a book about how not to do it...this would be a very good base for it ...unfortunately . Had many Garmin devices and have never experienced a situation like we are currently experiencing. It's also evident some devices / users seem to have many more bugs / different bugs than others which is also quite strange.

  • Usually when you buy a product from some proven brand and pay rather a little bit more, you expect that the product generally works as advertised

Garmin does have quite a reputation of delivering bug infested firmwares. The forerunner 945 is was okish. The 935 not so. The first couple of fenis iterations where really bad.

It seams they didn’t learn and the 955 is again a bad example of low quality firmwares

  • Well. FR955 was my first  and I am very disappointed with all the bugs (I have worked with software development for many years). I thought, with that price, I would get something that just works and that's not the case. HRV status + lactate threshold report still seems out of order and, as you can see from others, a lot of other stuff.

Furthermore it seems that all development with the strength-part has stopped. When I look at problems people reported years ago....they still exist. So I guess the have fired all the people who worked with that part. Sad really....

I'm also not impressed with the lack of consistency in how the app works. That's really frustrating imo.

Maybe Garmin is just too big a company these days?

  • @Elbo

I don't think it's about learning or not. They just don't care imo. It's very calculated when they release a version full of bugs.....

  • Imho, 955, is the most buggy watch ever, and the foolishest thing is that Garmin continues to leave it as is! I thing my 955 will go soon on ebay...

  • As Kimi would say...bowah!

FR955 is my second Garmin after Fenix 6. That was buggy, not FR955! And it also has poor quality HPS precision. With FR955 I run, swim and hike and the only bug found is the line that sometimes appears during a run

  • Darth Vader edition (Vivoactive 4 I think) was my first as a gift from my wife. Worked amazing but I wasn't into running, once I started I just decided to go for the best running watch available and most reviewers said it was the 955 because I plan on taking on a triathlon in 2024. Bit the bullet and got the 955 and surprise, surprise...I'm stuck with an USB connection watch only Sweat smile I mean it could be worse but I spend my money for something...always hated the Apple prices but TBH you do get what you pay for...I think Garmin is just sleeping on their past success and other brands will eventually surpass them...

  • They just don't care imo.

Garmin is a hardware company, not a software company. I reported dozens of bugs and several times they offered to swap my watch for a refurbished one as a solution.

They are quite good at swapping hardware when there is a problem, but have to clue how to solve softwareproblems.

What makes things worse is that Garmin is driven by their marketing department and marketing knows long feature lists impress wannabe buyers. So they demand more and more features from their development team. This result in gimmicky, not that usefull and not that accurate features, full of bugs.

Also, it puzzles me why there isn’t a shared softwareplatform for their watches. Somehow the same feature is introduced to different watches at different times with different bugs.

  • My feeling at this point is that they are not going to try to fix this watch.

I have had many Garmin devices .. all of them buggy on launch .. but Garmin was diligent at least to remove the most important problems during the first months.

This is no longer the case here.

After half year the watch it's still unusable. They don't care anymore. More important bugs are constantly reported here in the forums but they just ignore users.

I don't know what it's going on. Maybe Garmin don't want to invest more money on this market because apple is going to predate the market real quick .

And the new features are just gimmicks. The "adaptative" training it's a joke. Just a scripted sequence of workouts, indepently of your race goal.

Unusable, you say? How come lots of us are still using ours?

And things are getting fixed, especially with version 13.22. Yes, there are still plenty of bugs but most of us won't encounter them in normal use.
