13.21 Bug: Selecting Bike activity actually selects Track Run

This is a really really weird one.  This afternoon I decided to go on my first bike ride with the 955 but upon selecting Bike activity, the watch actually loaded up Track Run!  Moreover, the second screen within Track Run was a completely white screen, no fields, no lines, nothing, just blank white!  Then I tried selecting Run Activity and the same thing happened, second screen was empty.  I repeated this 4-5 times and the wrong activity was loaded with an empty second screen. I got completely frustrated, went upstairs, grabbed my 235 and off I went.

Now here is the totally insane part. I came back from my ride and took my iPhone to shoot a video of this weirdness in order to upload it to this forum and lo and behold, I cannot reproduce the bug!  How unbelievably crazy is that?  Both Bike and Run activities seems to be fine now. How could they have fixed themselves and what caused them to display blank pages?!?

The only thing I do know, is that I have a race in less than two weeks and I don't believe I can trust the 955 at this point :( :( :(

I am posting this regardless in case a) the bug returns and b) someone else comes across this!

Any help / ideas appreciated. Would a hard reset be advised and would my HRV history etc be reset?

  • hi, don't be scared about this. Some times it can happen, turn off and on again, try again and try the same setting of your race.

  • Hi  and thank you for the reply. Are you actually serious? Has this happened to you and is it a known problem?

  • Hi Kalamarios, you have another post where you say bugs... 955, all sport watches are electronic instruments, and some issues can happen. Connect to PC,  Garmin express and wait synchronization. I think you need more time to understand and learn your new watch.

  • Thank you for your reply . I hear you and I indeed need to spend more time with my watch, but unfortunately on my very first workout with it I discovered the Structured Repeats bug (total crash and restart) and that was only the beginning.

Quick question to your suggestion. What should I expect to happen if I do a Garmin Express synchronization? Does it fix something on the background?

Speaking as a software dev and someone who's experienced a ton of bugs with the past couple of Garmins I've bought, to me it sounds like you're blaming the user here.

All sport watches are also consumer products, and it's up to the manufacturer to make sure they work properly (up to a reasonable standard). I mean, technically Garmin doesn't owe us anything (beyond whatever legal consumer protections we have), but we also don't owe Garmin the money we'll use for our next watch purchase down the road.

I really hate to see people make legit complaints only to be told "that doesn't happen to me" or "you're holding it wrong".

I'll also point out the the majority of users aren't going to sync with a computer, so it wouldn't be great if that's really the suggested way to fix random Garmin issues.

My only suggestion is to wait and see if it happens again. You might want to set up a hotkey to take a screenshot, so you'll at least be able to screenshot it if it happens and you don't have your phone.

  • Thank you for being an ally , very much appreciated!

Wow, I didn't know you can assign a hot key to take a screenshot, that's a great suggestion!

BTW, this bug hasn't reoccurred yet.
