Recovery Time Not Syncing Correctly Through Physio TrueUp

Sunday at lunch, 3:30 Z2 run with Garmin 955, software version 12.23, estimated recovery time 69 hours (seemed legit, since it was a hard effort), sync to Garmin Connect.

Sync to Garmin Connect first. Monday evening, 1:00 recovery Z1 indoor bike with Garmin Edge 1040, software version 14.50, estimated recovery time 17 hours, sync to GC after session

Update watch softare version to 13.21, sync with Garmin Connect, recovery time 17 16 hours takes precedence over the remaining 42 41 hours remaining from the initial long run.

Am I doing something wrong in these steps/ this order? Please help a brother in need!

  • I think we were led to believe that both devices will send data back to GC and this will manage overall training and recovery load, I had both of my devices 955/1040 side by side with completely different recovery and recommended workouts presented, I called Garmin and was told that both are independent and they do not take into account what one or the other are advising..... A little anti climax as I was led to believe that both devices are working together to produce a recommended training load/ recovery.

  • How can be hard effort a Z2 run? If you felt hard effort you have to set correctly your hr zones

  • So what is to whole purpose of Physio TrueUp, if I may ask?

  • Not the purpose of the started topic, but RPE (rate of perceived exertion) is extremely subjective. Not to mention the fact that it rained 80% of the time and 8 degrees Celsius.

  • Hi Alexander,

I had the same at the weekend.  I competed in a round of our National CX series on Saturday morning and my 955 gave me a recovery time of something high like 96 hours.

Home on Sunday and i did a gentle recovery ride using my 1040 and at the end of that it calculated a recovery time of 2 hours.

The 2-hour recovery time overwrote the remaining 80odd hours from the 955.  Of course, this has reset the training readiness figures etc.

My suspicion is that even though I thought I'd turned on the 1040 in good time I hadn't allowed it enough time to fully sync and down to Garmin Connect before starting the ride.  Therefore, the edge didn't know anything about the CX race until after the ride.  But of course, by that time the metrics had been overwritten by the last writer wins policy that seems to be in play.

If i had let the Edge fully sync and checked that it was showing the 80odd hours recovery time first before starting the ride I think it would have been ok.

I'll try and test/monitor this as it should be relatively easy to reproduce.

    Regards, Dave

  • Yes, i thought i had too.  Did you check that the acute load and recovery time metrics were displayed on the Edge as you think they should have been before starting your ride?
