Forerunner 955 software issues

Hi.

i want to purchase Fr955 today at rebel sports shop. i have watched alot of vidoes on youtube regarding Fr955 issues as list below. Please, could you confirm if these issues have been resloved.

-Improvements to data screen drawing
- Improvements to Audio Dialect selection
- Addressed issues with Cycling VO2 Max values
- Addressed issues with After Sunset backlight setting
- Various other bug fixes and improvements

  • I've had a 955 since the release, and sure the FW issues have been a tad frustrating but as it is with 13.15 Beta and now 13.21 and it's a very good watch.

    1. Data screen Drawing - I am not sure what you refer to

    2. Audio Dialect selection - I am not sure what you refer to , I don't use any audio from my watch.

    3. I don't cycle , but Running VO2 seems to work although would be better if decimals were shown . One can see the decimals on Runalyze.

    4. Never had any issue with my backlight

    5. I wouldn't go back to my 745 / 945LTE or 630 from this watch. It works well for my use case and with the latest firmware is much better than the initial Firmware .

    Those are my thoughts.

  • Yeah, please try to be more precise because most of these don't really make sense to me either...

    * Data screen drawing: If you by any chance meant the weird line which was drawn in datafields, that's fixed.

    * Various other bug fixes and improvements: Yes, these have been addressed (but is meaningless ;) )

    * After Sunset Backlight: I think there was a weird backlight issue in one of the earlier firmwares, should all be fine now

Still remaining issues (not for all users though):

VO2Max not updating properly: still reported by some.

Lactate Treshold not syncing: For me it finally synced last time for the first time in months, not sure if it's actually fixed or if it's because I this time synced with garmin express instead of the mobile app... but this can also be not completely ideal working function for some.

Overall most bugs have been fixed now though and now finally (so that's after half a year!) I would be able to recommend it to others as well (even though I still feel it's the lesser attention getting sibling of the epix2/fenix7)

  •  I actually want to be using this watch as my everyday thing. I play soccer 1 to 2 times a week, I cycle occasionally but have done it for a while now for personal reasons though will go back to it soon. While playing soccer I want to monitor my heart rate, calories, steps, rep, oxygen, etc. These are one of my main reasons of buy the watch.do you think I will be affected much by issues? Again, I'm not very good with buttons, so a touchscreen is my main thing.

I have watched YouTube videos where users have reported about the touch screen. Pls advice if it had be solved too

  • Honestly, the Touch screen was one of the main reasons I chose the 955 over the 255 (having used the 620/630 series with touch screens before) and I have had no issues using the touch screen.  There are some areas where functionality could be increased, but for my use case, it works well.  I wear my watch all day, use it with notifications, wear it at night also and I find it seamless to use.

  • Thanks for your response. I appreciate it.

Can I ask if you are using Fr 955 solar or nonsolar.

I heard nonsolar ones are brighter on the screen than solar ones  .is this correct? If you are using nonsolar.

  • I have the base 955 (not the solar - I did consider it but have no need for the solar, as the battery life is more than adequate for my use case) For background, I am 59, and my eyesight is thus less than ideal let's say.  I've been using Garmin since the FR 201. Recently I had the FR630, FR745 and FR945LTE (for a very short time as with 955 being released I decided to return the 945LTE). I considered the Epix 2 after the 745, but when I tried it I found the AMOLED screen legibility in sunlight during activities to be less ideal than the screen on the 745. I bought the 955 at the time of release. I have found the display to be easy to read and during activities, I don't have any issues. The screen size being larger than the 745 and 945LTE is also helpful.

  • Ok, thanks. I might be going for the nonsolar version then.

You mentioned you returned 945lte, how long can I keep the watch before returning it back?

  • That would depend on the terms and conditions of the seller you are buying from.

  • Thank you very much .

  • Avoid the solar.

    Definitely not worth the money.
