Touchscreen becomes unresponsive after few days

Since my 955 has been updated to FW 12.27 I started to notice that after some time (usually around 2 weeks), touch becomes unresponsive. When it happens, it is not possible to select any widget glance by tapping on it and also scrolling becomes more laggy.

Button-based navigation within the UI remains working even after touch-based is broken.
Restart of the watch fixes the issue for next few days.
Before 12.27 I haven't experienced this issue.

Has anyone else noticed this?

  • I also experienced laggy/unresponsive touch screen a week after I purchased the Forerunner 955. It is updated to 14.20. If I remember correctly, screen became unresponsive the next morning after I added some 6-8 extra glances. I restarted the watch, all was fine exactly till the next morning. Then I found this forum thread. I decided to remove those newly added glances and so far I havent experienced laggy/unresponsive screen for 3 days already. I might start adding them back one by one to see, if there is a specific widget that makes the watch screen behave like this.

  • Well, I added Barometer and Hydration widgets two days ago and my screen literally minutes ago became aggy and unresponsive again :/

I switched touchscreen general use off and back on again through the Connect app, and that seems to reset the problem again, so it does look like a software issue.

  • thanks for follow-up. it sounds like you may have done the debugging that Garmin should be able to do for you...

i can confirm that i do not use those glances/widgets and i have not had the unresponsive touch screen issue with my 955
