Touchscreen becomes unresponsive after few days

Since my 955 has been updated to FW 12.27 I started to notice that after some time (usually around 2 weeks), touch becomes unresponsive. When it happens, it is not possible to select any widget glance by tapping on it and also scrolling becomes more laggy.

Button-based navigation within the UI remains working even after touch-based is broken.
Restart of the watch fixes the issue for next few days.
Before 12.27 I haven't experienced this issue.

Has anyone else noticed this?

  • In the last week I encountered this issue 3 times: on Dec. 24th, then next day on 25th and today on 31st. Restarted watch after each occasion. I have sent the video capturing the issue and data from the watch to Garmin. Their support opened an issue.

While I was reading replies to this thread I noticed that all users reporting touchscreen issue are from Europe. Do watches for EU and other European markets have different HW (and thus e.g. different drivers) than rest of the world? Or maybe it’s just a coincidence?

  • that's exactly what i thought after the first feedback here: "strange, somehow only people from the EU?!"

I had it recently "unusually rare" - only once. And then I could not make a video, because I was in a hurry and was on the road. At this point, however, it should be mentioned that I also have the DND mode active most of the time during the day, so maybe it does have something to do with notifications. This thesis I had already written in the beta forum, I mean....

  • I am from outside of EU and so far no such issue yet.

So only happens in EU ?

What's the commonality ? Related to GPS or supply chain ?

  • I've had this issue one time (I'm from the US). I don't know where my watch was made but I ordered it from a US seller.

  • Yours probably a different issue.

The guys above are seeing repeated occurrences ?

  • I've also only had the watch for just over 4 weeks so maybe just not enough time to manifest itself a lot. Strangely enough the one time I saw the touchscreen issue I also noticed much faster than normal battery drain the night of and the day after (like 2-3x faster) and the drain didn't stop until I restarted my watch. I think I just ran into the battery drain issue again last night into this morning (no noticeable touchscreen lag this time so the two issues are probably unrelated).

  • If your touchscreen becomes unresponsive once again, then it's very probable that you encounter the same issue as we do.

Anyways, having this watch feels like being a QA engineer for Garmin, with one exception: QAs get paid for their job, while we had to pay to Garmin to buy this unfinished product, do the testing and spend time with reporting issues and SW bugs...

  • Actually I think I did run into the unresponsive touchscreen lag a couple of days ago. It wasn't as noticeable this time (I could still scroll through glances via touch whereas the first time I ran into this going through glances was severely lagging), but the touchscreen would only respond to touches in the center vertical strip on the watch (so if I tried to swipe up from around 3 o'clock on the watch it wouldn't work). After restarting the watch I could swipe up/down to glances from anywhere on the watch surface with no lag.
