Missing functions that exist in the Epix 2

There are several functions that exist on the Epix 2 that do not appear on the 955:

1. Watch face complications cannot be touch pressed (didn't realized how much I missed this, why is this not available)

2. Touch is disabled after stopping/pausing an activity and there's no way to enable

3. Sleep on/off in the control wheel is not available

  • Agreed - I was tempted to get the Epic, but waited for the 955 - in hindsight seeing how the Epix and Fenix are getting much faster development updates I made the wrong choice.

Why Garmin can't offer ALL the software features across the same hardware platforms (I mean the 955, Fenix and Epix - and the more premium ones - all must share the same sensors, memory cpu etc ) and just differentiate on materials, screen types is beyond me...

All the time, we have this weird situation where their multi sport watches all have varying features, different screens for the same function etc

  • The latest F7/Epix2/Quatix Alpha firmware have many new features not present on the 955 - including many Run power related.  A bit odd that at least the running power related changes are not being tested first on the premier running watch?

  • Some of the issues you are referring to, are features that has just resently been released. So your complaints are really crazy.

I bet most of you acutally follow either one or all of the amazing folks like  /  and .and they know things ;-)

"Now again, this is in the first public alpha build, and this build covers the aforementioned Fenix 7/Epix series units. However, I confirmed with Garmin that the Forerunner 255 series, Forerunner 955 series, and Forerunner 945 LTE will also be getting the running power shortly in beta as well. Expect that measured in days or weeks for the FR255/955, with the Forerunner 945 LTE trailing slightly behind (as usual) due to carrier certification requirements."

So it is mostly a matter of patience....

  • I'm personally less worried about the running features, because I too saw the video/article...but coming from an Epix, there's no excuse for the lack of basic functionality that exists on the Epix and not the 955 despite the same hardware

  • Sometimes the software or UI features depend on type of hardware used in each series, limitations included size of RAM, Native modules of System On Chip ( SoC), etc. I haven't seen any Teardown videos of either 955 or Epix 2 so can't speak for that. Anyone had a chance to get to know the details of SoC used in 955, my guess is that some kind of MX RT5xx series processor from NXP, clocked at 200 Mhz.

  • True, but it's hard to believe the three items I originally listed would be impacted by limitations/throttling. They're functions that already exist in other forms on the device, just not implemented for these specific actions.

  • Sure I don't disagree with you but I was talking about things generally, I am getting my 955 order delivered tomorrow and am already disappointed with so many issues reported in the forums and especially people are requesting Garmin to go back to 11.12 version. All I can assume is that forerunner team has upped their ante to resolve the current problem/issues than new features for the watch, so I see your 3 points as issues than features.

  • Fingers crossed on the development team.  If I hadn't come from an Epix, I don't think I'd have these gripes. Spend too much time on Reddit and product forums and you second guess decisions. I'm still pleased with my switch.

  • Today I'll switch from a Fenix 6 Pro Solar to a Forerunner 955. Let's see de difference

  • Please let us know your impressions, I have 945 and sooner or later I want to upgrade but it seems to me it is still early both for the lack of useful functions for now only on F7, and for the many bugs reported by friends of the forum. Thanks in advance
