HRV data lost when resetting watch? Not stored in cloud?

So the day before yesterday I did a factory reset on my 955. I'd not have expected that to have any impact on any of my metrics, but what I discovered to my surprise is that I have to start again gathering overnight HRV data for three weeks before it will give me an HRV status. Why would this be? This seems to suggest that HRV data isn't being stored in my cloud account. Why not? Like, why in the world wouldn't you?

(It's also giving me much higher HRV readings overnight, which might seem nice but is also a little suspicious and I wonder whether it's a result of having 12.27 installed right after the factory reset.)

  • HRV Is only on device and yes if you upgrade or reset then the 21 days (or whatever it is) start again. Even using the possible backup options does not address it. Frustrating yes.

  • I wish the watch will at least show the night's reading, without the "high, low or within band" grading after we reset our watch. This will at least give us something to rely on, while the watch continues to gather the data for 19(?) days.

  • Hello.

You had hope, but that's about it.

Yesterday I did a FR955 reset because there was a problem with CIQ and after tonight's report, or rather the morning report, it turned out that I have to "start collecting HRV data" again :/

I came across this thread only now because I did not want to believe that HRV data in the cloud is not important for the smartwatch.

    regards

  • There is an Alpha version for Fenix/Epix that add HRV sync to trueUp. It is planned for 955 also according to dcrainmaker.

  • I read DCRainmaker's post on this issue.
It's been 2.5 months since him and nothing has changed in terms of access to HRV data after resetting the watch.

    best regards

  • It hasn’t been released yet, so be definition it cannot work. If you go to the beta section of Fenix 7, you’ll see it’s a part of their latest Alpha release, or planning to.

I am by no means defending Garmin and their very poor communications in general, but expecting something to work when it officially isn’t a thing is maybe too much :)

  • I guess I didn't make myself clear enough for you to understand.

I am "disappointed" as the author of the thread that GarminConnect does not offer access to the data it has in the player's database. Just enough.

And the fact that firmware v11.15 for EpiX/F7/MarQ offers partial access to HRV (TrueUp) is another topic.

I do not expect that something that the manufacturer has not implemented will work on the FR955. I am amazed that this does not work by design and common sense.

For example, HRV4Training with the entire history can be transferred completely between devices and even platforms (I know, it's not a smartwatch).

  • I totally understand - and 100% agree. And while I really do like my 955, I actually found my 935 and 945 to be more “ready to go.” Of course they don’t have the same capabilities as my 955, but they worked. What’s the point of releasing feature after feature if they are only half-baked. Seems to be the general notion in here: people are obviously happy with new features but they are so far from finished that it ruins the experience entirely. I was looking FORWARD to my 955 and I actually bought it on release day. But today I wish I had waited at least 6-12 months. I was perfectly happy with my 945.

  • Garmins handling of 955 software updates is a mess. I don't understand why they insist on making a completely separate version of the firmware, instead of using a cut down fenix software. I am happy that Epix is my daily driver during winter.

I also agree that before releasing new metrics they should have full trueUp sync in place. Especially when Garmin keeps its number crunching locked down on its watches.

There is a leak about new features and the one I am only interested in is long overdue settings backup/migration. However settings are not health metrics, so it doesn’t make up for lack of metrics in trueUp.
