FW12.27: Eternal Sync/battery drain bug still there

Hi,

unfortunately the bug reported in https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-955-series/306973/forerunner-955-fw12-23---very-serious-eternal-sync-bug---rapid-battery-drain is still present on FW12.27.

This afternoon the watch started syncing every 30 seconds again. Battery drain is now >3% per hour, losing about 20% total charge in an afternoon.

  • Any updates here? This is very frustrating because sometimes this ends up killing the phone battery overnight...

  • Is there an effective workaround such as disabling auto sync or manually turning off wifi? Turning off Bluetooth probably isn't a great option since too many other features won't function without it

  • Had this issue for a little while with FW12.23- rebooting the watch eliminated it for me. So far so good with FW12.27

  • This is on FW12.27.

  • i thought so as well, reinstalled the Android Garmin Connect app as well, but after a day or so it started the drainage again.

  • Have you tried rebooting and removing some CIQ apps ?

  • Of course I tried rebooting, and no it's not the CIQ apps. The problem (for the hundredth time...) is that the watch and Connect get into a loop where they sync like every minute or faster. It's very obvious because it kills the phone battery, so I've found myself without phone as well. This bug doesn't only significantly reduce the value of the watch, it's outright dangerous as you can suddenly find yourself unreachable because your watch ate your phone battery.

It looks like a similar bug was found with Strava segments in 12.23, but there must be more situations like that given that it still happens with 12.27.

  • I remember seeing a setting in my watch for aito-sync.  You could turn that off and I bet the problem would go away but you'd probably need to manually open CIQ on your phone and sync to upload workout data with that off.  I think I set that to off in mine when I first got my watch this week.

  • I don't suffer from this bug. Maybe because i don't use my sportswatch for recieving messages from my phone. After synching i always turn off bluetooth and wifi on the watch (whichever i used for synching). For this i use the shortcuts menu.

  • Same here.  Just upgraded from a Fenix 3 and that's the way I did it with that watch.  Hotkeys setup for WIFI and Bluetooth on the 2 buttons on the right side of the watch to toggle those features.

I'm kind of a battery-Nazi though so maybe those extra steps aren't for everyone.
