Do you think the 955 tracks the miles on the treadmill well?
I have mine calibrated to the treadmill and it seems to be ok. I did the calibration after 2 and then 4 miles and since then it's been similar to the treadmill. Of course if the treadmill is spot on I am not sure , but at least they are both in sync . The last Treadmill activity I did across a variety of paces worked well.
I calibrate after each run, and sometimes, it’s .1 off in 5 miles, sometimes .4 off over the same distance. I think a lot depends on what you do with that hand. Do you wipe sweat a lot? Do you use that hand to change something you are watching, drink a lot with that hand, etc? I find that the more you use that hand to do something, instead of swinging as you run, the more off it would be. I came to that conclusion with walking and running. When running, its fairly consistent, but when I walk, it’s WAY WAY WAY off..
I haven't had a lot of success with treadmill calibration. I've been doing quite a variety of workouts on the treadmill (and in a lot of my workouts I vary my pace as well). My pace is often off by over 10% (and sometimes even over 20%). What I've noticed is that if I calibrate to a recovery effort run the watch tends to underestimate my pace on faster workouts, and if I calibrate to a faster run the watch tends to overestimate my pace on recovery runs. I don't think my arm swing is that different over the range of paces I'm running so that could be a contributing factor. Right now I'm just calibrating after every workout for the sake of recording the correct total distance on the watch, and then putting notes about my workout speeds in Garmin Connect.
I guess if you want accurate pacing / running power on treadmills you really do need some sort of footpod...
I think it is reasonable considering that it uses only arm swing to detect distance and pace. But it depends..
Some peoples cadence and therefore arm swing will increase or decrease during a run when getting fatigued. this will effect the watches accuracy.
Also if you change the treadmills elevation this will.also effect accuracy as once again your cadence may change.
I can even increase or decrease the treadmills speed while maintaining the same cadence, My watch will think i'm, maintaining the same pace.
I always prefer to treat the treadmills data as more accurate if there is a difference and edit the distance in Garmin Connect each time.
