Is there any noticeable improvement from 11.12 to 12.27 ?

I am curious if there are any benefits when upgrading to 12.27 from 11.12 ?

I know there is bug fix for some rebooting issues and SatIQ and curious if it worth upgrading to 12.27.

If there are any new bugs introduced by later version of 11.12, then I would wait for future update.

Any thoughts would be great.

  • I've been on 12.27 since the beta launched and it handles most of the issues I need ok.  Of course all our use cases differ.

I definitely wouldn't change to 12.27 just for Sat IQ as for most use cases I do not see what all the fuss is about. In my (limited I shall say) tests it didn't measurable impact the battery life in a positive fashion so I just keep Multi band on. Of course battery life isn't the be all and end all to me as I can charge every three / four days as required.

It is definitely better than 12.23 and 12.25 in my view and the TE and other cadence anomalies seem to be better handled now.

For my use case I wouldn't choose to go back to 11.12 even if I had the choice.

The niggles I have still remain across all the FW versions , especially as regards using Maps and navigation, exiting an activity to a watch face or widget stops the GPS until one goes back to activity , some items between the GC app and watch aren't working as they should...and battery life seems worse than claimed...

  • I agree...

12.27 fixes the main issues introduced with 12.23 (training effect stuff) and makes the overall experience better and does fix quite a few of the issues in 11.12.

Still much more to improve but it's a bit more polished now.

Don't really have a usecase for satiq myself either, at least not for my regular running. I want proper precision and pacing for my runs so go for all+multiband which still gets me almost 25 hrs of battery time.

Perhaps when cycling, long hikes, stuff like that? Or when you REALLY need some more battery life at the expense of perfect precision but some added help in tough environments?

  • 12.27 is OK. There are some improvements (eg. not crashing in morning report) and some new minor problems (eg. the stripy line on the display).

SatIQ doesn't seem to make much difference to battery usage. I do runs with All Sats+Multiband and walks with SatIQ. Battery usage seems to be about the same for each over about 2 hours.

I was happy with 11.12, and I'm happy with 12.27. Neither is perfect.

Both have problems with maps. Both have problems if you pause an activity using Resume Later or by switching to the watch face.

  • pretty much my sentiment. i went from 11.12 to 12.27 after i knew they had fixed the cadence issue introduced by 12.23.

no real improvements in 12.27 for me except:

    - SatIQ: only one test...not real difference between it and All Satellites and i'm just going to stick with All Satellites

    - backlight issue fixed (where certain glances would activate backlight even if backlight was set to off)

overall, i'm content with 12.27. while running power and other new features are potential nice to haves, my only wishes right now are that they fix 2 core issues:

    1. maps behave like they do on the Fenix7/Epix2

    2. they fix the GPS logging stop when a hotkey is used (this problem has existed since the 945LTE.

these seem like reasonable fixes, but who knows how long it will take to see the fixes come.

  • I don't know whether its only my watch but my activity distances (both walking and running) are about 6-7% shorter on 12.27 compared to 11.12, where its obvious to me that the 11.12 distances were correct.

  • No issues with mine in that regard. (not that I've noticed anyway)

  • Thanks for the info. I can't figure it out and Garmin hasn't been helpful so far. I compared my 955 on my left wrist and my Fenix 7s on my right arm and every time I walk this clear sky trail my 955 distance is about 6-7% short. I uploaded and looked at the GPX tracks and they are practically identical. Also, all the GPX programs I used (5 different ones) show the correct distance, which is about 6-7% longer than shown on the 955 (the 7s shows the correct distance on the watch and GPX).

  • Interesting and strange to say the least. Is the distance in Garmin Connect (web) and the watch the same ?

  • You mention a particular route here , have you tried others and got the same result or is it particular to this route?

  • I walked several other trails. Every trail I walk now shows the 955 being about 6-7% short. The Garmin Connect web shows the wrong distance on the 955 since it just gets the uploaded track. But if I upload the GPX to my computer and use any GPX trail analysis program (I tried 5 different ones I found on the web) it shows the correct distance. The only difference between the 7s and 955 tracks is the 7s looks somewhat (very subtle) smoother. I also factory reset the 955 but it has the same problem. Again, I had no problem with 11.12.
