Does Forerunner 955 still have button problems?

It has been few months since I sold my FR955.
does the watch still have problems with buttons? Like sticky button etc.

  • I have had no button issues with my device

  • My back button is a bit meh...

  • Buttons are not perfect but they work.

I am using touch screen as much as possible.

  • I think it depends on when it was made, I'm getting a warranty replacement soon, my down button mostly stays stuck now and all of my buttons have almost a double click to them.

  • i have never found the buttons that great on any of my forerunner watches of recent memory (those i used as a daily driver as opposed to just during sports activities): 735XT, 935, 945LTE, 955. they are either mushy or have a sometimes double/sticky click. that being said, none of them have failed me and i've gotten used to them. (including the 935 which i used daily for over 4 years)

my 955 actually has settled into a decent behavior. i'm still slowly using the touch screen more and more for viewing glances, etc, but old habits (using buttons) die hard...

  • On my first model, the down button would occasionally stay pressed. The other buttons had an uncomfortable, imprecise pressure point. My dealer replaced the watch, and now the buttons feel completely different and much better.

  • Not sure if it's still a problem, but I can say I've had to RMA my first two 955 solars due to button problems. The buttons on my third seem to be ok so far, but the battery life of this one is terrible. I'm hoping it's just a firmware issue (I'm using the current beta)

  • When you say battery life is terrible on 955 solar, how terrible is it, I mean with respect to what Garmin has stated in the specs? I am thinking about 955 Solar and debating after reading through a lot issues with this model. My confidence in forerunner Team is going downhill every day unfortunately. They take years to come up with an iteration with modest features but worst quality control and bugs!

  • I don't have a solar version - just the simple one and I metered this: 100% at 18:00 - 09/25 down to 5% on 16:45 - 10/01. That's 6 days with about 3.5h of workouts (multi band GPS enabled).

  • Yes, It's not going to be fixed, it wasn't fixed on the 945 nor it's going to be fixed on 955. The buttons are not great, but they still work, on rare cases they don't and then you ask Garmin to replace the watch.

It kind of needs that Garmin would redesign them and use different ones, which I would have expected to happen after 945, but no.

It's kind of puzzling for me that with this price they don't use money to get the button feeling to the same level as the price of the watch as one is expecting much more nicer and consistent feeling from them.

But the situation is what it is, and there's not going to be changes to that before they use different buttons or fix the issue. And I don't see that happening with 955, as it didn't happen with 945 and they learnt nothing.
