Garmin Native Power Structured Training is nearly impossible

In the past I was using Stryd, bur with the native power support of the FR955 I switched, but this was not a good idea. The Workout Screen is not adjustable and the power lags so much, that short intervals are not really possible. Although the messages (are so slow and are so long shown, that you cannot see if the interval is over. The power values that are shown are jumping around without changing the pace or up/down. Its really that bad, so that I will switch again to Stryd. I am using a Tri-HF-belt.

  • I am finding the same thing. The lag is anywhere from 20-30 seconds, so it's useless on intervals under a minute. I read someone suggested switching GPS recording from "smart" to "every minute". Has anyone had success with this or any other strategy for reducing lag in power display on the watch and recording?

  • switching GPS recording from "smart" to "every minute".

Surely you mean every second. But it is not a problem. Problem is averaging the pace. I reckon it is 30 sec. averaging. It looks like it was used to enable voice output more fluent. It works on steady run, but it is pointless on short intervals.

  • Oops, yes, "every second". Steady runs are fine, but short interval sessions and hills are where power is supposed to shine, and it really becomes useless if it's not quick to respond to changes.

  • As far as I could understand so far, you have 4 averaging options, 3 seconds, 10 seconds, 30 seconds and lap power. 10 seconds power is not in the selectable data fields. I made a screen with 3, 30 and lap power and works well. I also prepare the structured workout in intervals.icu, so I can select, for example, 3 seconds power for sprint and lap power for longer intervals. Unfortunately with the Garmin workout builder you don't have this flexibility, even though the device supports all the different modes.
