Looking for a good 101 Video / Instructions to Navigation on Forerunner 955

I am looking for a good basic introduction to using maps / navigation on the Garmin platform / FR 955.

Used many forerunners before but none with maps like the 955 (should?) have.

Been trying to sort it for hiking etc with little luck.

I do know how to create courses in Garmin Connect / Strava etc, but using the maps for Hiking etc is another thing altogether!

Also the Explore App/ Web Portal

Any suggestions?

Thanks

  • Did you ever get an answer to this? I'm having problems using the navigate a course

  • have a look at DC rainmaker on you tube.. he does lots of Garmin videos that are in depth and might be to help you out.. and if there is something you want to ask him he is friendly enough to help and reply to you.. Certainly helped me get around the 955s

  • It is too difficult for us to search a location on FR955, so I have to use my computer to create a new location via Garmin explorer and then sync it to my watch. @@

    Here is what I did:

    1. Open chrome on PC, choose your expected location on Google Map, then Right click on this point and copy its value, the value could be like: 10.853688513910962, 106.79680664978623)

    2. Open  https://explore.garmin.com/Map

    3. Paste the above value into search box

    4. Create and save this Location.

    5. Sync to your FR955

    6. Go to Navigation -> Saved Location -> Start navigation.

  • hi , i'm by no means an expert at this, but what are you thinking of in particular? for planned hikes, i have found using Garmin connect on the web to create the course/route, and then sending it to my watch has worked well, much in the same way i do for running in a strange town or unknown previous route. i then Navigate course while hiking.

  • Hi Derek, Thanks yes I do that for some of my running routes and I agree it works well.  I have been wondering how to use the maps from the watch where one hasn't made a route in advance.  I'm trying to get the best way to use the on watch maps , panning , zooming , selecting a point to navigate to.  Hopefully this functionality is better on the latest FW versions. I'm a novice to this area of the watch.  So for example if I am out on a Run and I decide I'd like to navigate to a certain place , what would be the best way to do this on the go. Thanks

  • got it. i haven't done much of that. i have changed route and just used the map for basic guidance and it worked fine, but i unfortunately haven't formally used "navigate" to a selected point on the fly.

  • I found this video helpful. https://youtu.be/sG6qoA1g9PY
It compares the 955 navigation to the Fenix 7 and 6.  The 955 had a few bugs when he made the video but I believe they are fixed now.  It shows how to find places nearby and navigate to them.
