Erratic Stamina readings

Hello my Stamina reading have been erratic where it starts off fine but then all of a sudden drops to 1% for long periods and then up again all while at aerobic pace throughout and the same pace. This has been happening for the last month and it is becoming very frustrating. I have checked my heart zones etc and they are all correct. I am running consistent 100k weeks running every day so I have good data. Can anyone please help. I really want to use the stamina fields given the feedback from other runners but at present it is useless.

  • The "range" is all the "max heart rates" I've tried. I was 190 before the update. Then over the course of 3 weeks afterwards it pushed me down to 175 (all the while exhibiting the stamina problem). A week ago I turned off autodetect and set it to 185 which is realistically my max heart rate, and the problems persist. I believe that your watch is working correctly, but believe me when I say this isn't user error on my part. There is some sort of software issue. Which is why I asked the other questions like "have you installed any extra apps?" Because spotify is the only extra thing I've added.

I've attached an easy 3 mile run where my average hr is <70% (zone 2: "easy"). In all fairness this run doesn't exhibit the problem as horribly, but that's just a function of the time spent running, not of my effort. The stamina usually hits 0 around 3 miles in and then stays there.

  • My hr zones are correct. Everything worked perfectly until the 12.23 update. I'm assuming there's some additional software component that's different between us that allows yours to work and mine to screw up. I have the North America topographic map synced, I do not have the ski maps synced, and the only extra app I've installed is spotify, and I listen to music while I run. Those are the only things I've done that I imagine could somehow be causing a problem.

  • Definitively something's wrong there, you shouldn't have that big of a drop with that HR rate; I don't have Spotify installed; the only things I've installed extra is a race data field. As mentioned you can get the beta 12.27, as the 12.23 is the worst firmware out there, or try uninstalling Spotify to see if it makes any difference.

  • Thanks for the tip. I just enrolled in the beta program. I'm assuming there's a lag time before they push the beta firmware out, since it hasn't offered me an update yet.

  • OK it is good that you have the max HR configured correctly.

I don't install anything from CIQ. So no spotify or 3rd party data fields.

And I am running with a HRM Tri.

I guess its really a firmware bug. Hopefully Garmin can address this.

  • Hello all,

Thank you for your participation in this forum thread. We have other reports of this and are actively investigating. So that I may assist you further, please reply with the following:

    1. May we, if necessary, have permission to email you?
    2. May we, if necessary, have permission to view/access your Garmin Connect account?
    3. In what country do you live?
  • 1. Yes, email me. In fact I had a support ticket about this escalated to "the engineers" and I've been waiting for an email back for 3 weeks.

    2. Yes. Access my stuff. Whatever you need to fix this. I loved my Garmin before this bug was introduced, and I look forward to hopefully loving it again soon.

    3. I'm in the US.

    Thanks.

  • You're welcome!

The fastest way to get it is to use Garmin Express on the PC; not quite sure how fast you will get it if you just enrolled; you ca give it a try; assuming you have it installed.

  • All,

Please update your watch to 13.22 (when it becomes available to you) and let me know if you experience this after the update.

  • This specific bug seems to have been mostly fixed with with version 12.29 (or whichever beta was available just prior to 13.21). There have been slight dips in stamina where there probably shouldn't be, but I chalked that up to just random error. Today with 13.22 the stamina looks good. I don't know yet if the occasional minor errors are still there, but those aren't too much of a problem anyway.

On this topic, as someone in the "beta program" who uses the watch every single day, what's the best avenue for reporting bugs? There's nothing make-or-break for me currently, but there are plenty of little things I'd like to make sure are noted.
