Touch function for zoom/pan for maps

Hello,

i am not sure if I understand the touch function for zoom/panning correct.

In the manual i found this one:

Saving or Navigating to a Location on the Map

You can select any location on the map. You can save the location or start navigating to it.

  1. From the map, select an option:
    • To use the touchscreen, tap the map, tap and drag to position the crosshairs, and press UP or DOWN to zoom in or out.

I understood this the following:

i have an active activity e.g. hiking and one data page for the map, when i go to the map page i tap in the map, the cross appears and i have the posibility to zoom and pan the map?

Did i understood this correct?

This is definitly not working for me. When i want to zoom/pan, i have to choose the second function described in the manual and use the buttons, which is annoying:

To use the buttons, hold UP , select Pan/Zoom, and press UP or DOWN to zoom in or out.

Here it is described

Did i understood this correctly? Does it work for anyone or is this a bug?

Thanks!

  • I think your right and garmin just isnt there yet.

I briefly had the chance to mess with an Epix when it came out and the described way is how I remembered it working there. I was also kinda disappointed and hope they will change it soon to the way it is descirbed... I think you could even long press to navigate.

Also really want the option to have "touch on" only on map page. I don't see a reason for touch on any other page (coming from 935 and 945: especially with those finally crisp and clicky buttons on 955 :-)

  • I think you could even long press to navigate.

with long press you mean long touch and not long pressing the button?

  • yep long-touch, sorry. But I am not 100% sure, it's been some month...

  • I have the same. I thought I'm so dumb I don't know how to use it. But reality is that Garmin released product which is not ready yet (3 months later!) It's ridiculous. For last 2 years I had Fenix 6 (without maps). I wanted to have maps and touch screen was supposed to be nice addition. But it's doesn't work at all since very beginning.
There also other missing features which official documentation say it should be: Power Modes for example!
Another incomprehensible thing: Ultra Trail activity doesn't have Elevation Fields (and many other) while one default screen has Total Ascent info!!! WTF? I'm patient however I'm getting more and more pissed off this situation.

  • Ciao,

Quoto al 100% quello che hai scritto

  • Afaik, this is a well-known bug; crosshair simply is not there, OR, if it's there sometimes (especially after a watch reboot) and you eventually try to navigate to the waypoint aimed with the crosshair, the watch crash.
