Unable to calculate route during navigation

Hey

After I start navigation to a point of interest, I swap to map view and it always shows calculating. I have waited 20 minutes and it still shows calculating. How can I get the route displayed on map? Thanks.

  • Do you have good sight towards the sky, so the GPS gets locked?

  • Hey. Thanks for the reply. I was testing in home. It works after I went out.

  • Oh - my - god.

If a user doesn`t know the very basics of GPS... :-(

  • How is that relevant? One can very reasonable assume that it would use last known position for the calculations if it doesn't have GPS lock. Or maybe use location from Phone if BT connection, or something like that.

At least the UI should say "Acquiring GPS..." or something like that not "Calculating..." as it is not calculating.

No need to blame user for bad UI.

  • Even Google Maps doesn´t work if it has no known position - how should any Routing Software? Last known position could be anywere and therefore useless.

It should be obvious that proper GPS reception is needed for navigation purposes.

This discussion gets ridiculous if people WANT to blame UI to shield their own cluelessness.

I'm the first to blame Garmin for any silly software bug, as there are many. But not on this, it's too low.

  • Google maps as UI that indicates does it have your location or not. It also used very coarse locations from other sources than GPS, before getting better location. So I'm not really understanding your comparison. And no, I'm not saying it's a bug, it's bad design for UI perspective. Pretty different thing.

  • Also, now that I remember last time on Friday I did routing on Google maps that used very bad location and then jumped a lot when got better location. So yes, you can route with Google maps without GPS.

  • I didn't blame any one. Which part do you see in the post that I am blaming Garmin? I also looked into 955 manual to find out what the ring means. This is the first time I use Garmin watch and I simply assume it could work inside the house same as my phone.I tried to find out what I should do to make it work so I sent a question post, If someone is too low here, It's you.

  • No, it does not. It just makes you look more of rude. Please, just stop it.
