No Heart Hate after update to 12.23 FW

Hello all,

my Forerunner updated to 12.23 a few hours ago. Since then, I lost my step count and  heart rate. I already did factory reset, but nothing changed.

I already verified that wrist hear rate sensor is on, and  activity tracking is on. Anyone else having this issue?

  • I have a couple hour gap but it's working fine again

  • You shouldn't factory reset.

    I believe this is a server issue.

    It will update or fixed eventually. I recall such incidents in the past.

  • There are random gaps throughout the day. I wonder if it's recorded but just doesn't show or if it's just lost data and so affects all other metrics? I didn't remove my watch once today.

    My forerunner 255 has the same symptoms (same as ) since updating the firmware to 12.23 yesterday.

    I tried resetting, but it didn't improve.

      • Lost step counts & heart rate
      • Forerunner and iPhone (iOS 15.6.1) are synchronized via garmin connect mobile(4.58.2.2).
      • The sensor is working and the green and red lights are flashing.
    • System info
      • Software version: 12.23
        • GPS: 2.37
        • Wi-Fi:24.76
        • CIQ: 4.1.4
        • BMX: 9.0.2
        • WHR: 9.00.02
        • ...
  • Same problem here. No HR and steps. And WHR shows 0.00.00 like what mentioned similar to FW 10.10 update. 

  • If version is zero then something has gone wrong with the update. 

    I don't know what Garmin recommends for a fix for that and how one would even download latest firmware/previous if one would like to try manually updating/reverting and back to get that fixed. 

    I think in your case I would search forums is there recommend way to handle failed updates, if not, contact Garmin support to get the procedure and then tell us :) 

  • Well, that is weird.... I put my Garmin away for the weekend, and  2 days later  both step count and heart rate  sensors are working again . As Mentioned, it indeed started to work again. However, I don't get why a server side issue would or should interfere with my watch, running offline....

  • Yes also seeing this, I’ll get full days of HR data and then all of a sudden I’ll lose some hours. I’ve checked the sensor lights and they’re just off. Then it’ll start up again.

  • Thanks for response. I also realised that. Just went to Garmin support to check if they can re-install the current FW again from scatch. Looks like this support site does not have that permission. So I need to wait and watch on how this goes. I am guessing like you mentioned the FW update went bad.
