Forerunner 955 or Fenix 7 (or 7s)?

Hello, I've recently had an opportunity to buy Fenix 6X Pro very cheaply and so I did. After a week of using it I love it a lot. There is but one problem - the watch is too big for me. I can wear it but I feel it should be smaller to be comfortable.  I'm going to give Fenix 6 to my brother and buy a new watch for myslef. I'm leaning toward Forerunner 955 or Fenix 7 (maybe 7s?). I'd appreciate some advice. I like the durability of Fenix 7 but on the other hand Forerunner is lighter and cheaper.

Firstly, my wrist size is 17,6 cm (6,9 in). Secondly, I have a white collar job. With Fenix 6X Pro I have a huge problem - I can't button up my sleeve due to the watch's size. It is simply too bulky, not only in terms of diameter but also in height. So I want something smaller and lighter, which can be worn comfortable under the shirt and dinner jacket.

What I loved a lot in Fenix 6 is:

- measuring health data,

- tracking my cycling and running activity,

In terms of my sport activity I'd say it's 80% cycling, the rest is yoga, swimming, weightlifting, ocasionally running and once in a while kayaking or hiking (once a couple of weaks, at least). So, I wont' be using maps that much.

Thanks for advice and apologies if posting on a wrong forum (haven't seen any general forum here).

  • I briefly had a base Fenix 7 but returned it because of the compass problem which I feared was a hardware issue.

The Fenix 7 firmware is more polished than the 955 but the hope is that the 955 will catch up. I chose the 955 as it was less bulky, cheaper and included multiband GNSS. In terms of supported activities, they are pretty much identical. If you are not fussed about maps, it might be worth considering the 255/255s.

  • I would not worry about the durability. My forerunner 935 is over 5 years old and apart from the obvious battery and know issues with cracks in the heartratesensor and barometer it's still fine. I run, trailrun, bike, hike, climb (mostly via ferrata), swim (pool and openwater and sea) with it. Wear it 24/7, including during showers.

In the end it comes down to looks. Do you see yourself more as a outdoorsy type, buy the fenix. If you want to show you're a sporty type, buy the forerunner.

For my, it's simple. I don't like the looks of the fenix, like the lightweight of the forerunner and same some money that I prefer to spend on other gear/entre fees for trails or races. (well, I wouldn't buy either of them unitl my current watch is really broken. I don't see any must have features in newer watches, but that's me)

And from your description how you use your watch you can save yourself some money and buy a forerunner 255. For your usage it's plenty.

  • You seem quite a picky person.

I suggest you go down to a retailer and try it out.

As for functions, use the Garmin US website to compare.

  • Thanks for all the replies. I haven't decided yet but I'm going to try different watches this week to choose the best size for me.
