Custom maps still don't work. The new map is visible in the general settings, but in the activity settings, after pressing configure map, the watch freezes.I upload the map via basecamp. The watch itself…
Eh. I am ashamed to admit it. The maps in the form of an img file started working (although not all) after I changed the file name. The default name gmapsupp was invisible to the watch.
However, this does…

Wrong link for some reason, I hope this one works:
i'm tempted but on the fence because i have a backpacking trip coming up in a week tt i don't want to have any weird bug cause me a nightmare on the trip. while i have some frustrating bugs, the watch right now "works" well enough for my trip. if this were released after my trip, i would have already activated my beta request.
can anyone confirm that the backlight bug where certain glances cause the backlight to activate has been fixed?
Completely understand, @derek87. Before the trek, I would fear also...
However, I searched for your original post https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-955-series/296303/backlight-settings-bug#pifragment-1279=2 and so far I can check, it is working as expected with 12.20. But I haven't played around much with this issue at the previous fw, so I don't really know what was the faulty behavior in detail.
Enroll to beta in GCW and then you should get it via GCM or Garmin Express.

thanks ethcz. essentially, the backlight is triggered by certain glances like HR on 11.12 and below.
i'm still on the fence, but it's good to have a 3rd party speak into my concern of disrupting my watch before my trek into the mountains. there is probably not much gained by me updating it before the trip except maybe if the touch functionality on maps is better. yet, in the state on 11.12, i can still use them, even if in a clunky way. [zooming with buttons and panning with touch]
thankfully, 11.12 did seem to remove the crashing while using maps during a GPS activity.
Then I can confirm the backlight is not triggered when I enter the HR glance. I have the setting Keys & Touch and Gesture set to After sunset, both for General use and During Activity (and the sunset is still not here now at my current location )
