Open Water Accuracy issue 955

Hi,

As mentioned by other users, I have also Open Water Accuracy issues with the new 955 watch. It’s recording about 150m less on a 800m loop and the swim time recorded is about 30sec. slower per 100 than my usual pace.

Will this be fixed through a software update or will this be a continuous flaw? I thought the GPS is suppose to be much better than on the previous models. A bit disappointed.

  • Currently there is no acknowledge from Garmin to that issue. So currently we have no idea are they going to fix it or not.

Only thing is contacting support and nagging them about it, making the pressure to investigate and fix.

This isn't so bad as with 945 in the start, it lost the whole swims and they eventually fixed it. So I would hope that they will fix it, but how soon/fast is pretty much dependent on how much reports/pressure Garmin gets about it. On personal level its almost end of the OW season here, so I would hope that before next summer they would have fix for it.

Also really waiting for alpha/beta to fix at least some of the bunch of other issues this watch have.

  • I _think_ it got a bit better when I found that recording rate was set at 3s instead of every second. But I agree, a bit disappointing.

  • Where can I find the recording settings? Thx!

  • System -> Data Recording: "Sets how the watch records activity data. The Smart recording option (default) allows for longer activity recordings. The Every Second recording option provides more detailed activity recordings, but may not record entire activities that last for longer periods of time."

But that's like the typical first things one does, so doesn't help me at all...

  • Thanks. Have also contacted Garmin support directly . hopefully if more users raise this issue they will start looking into a fix.

  • I remember in every Garmin 9xx series there are some people with OWS problems. I'm so lucky, never had any problems. With 955 pace, distance, timing...everything perfect! Did you update? Did you fix satellites?

  • 935 just worked, 945 works now after updates, 955 does not.

Update what? There has been just minor release with not really fixing anything. "fix satellites"? Yes, there's GPS fix before swim.

Yes, it's using the best GPS setting with 1s recording. What else and good for you.

  • There is no software update for the 955 yet. I tried the 1sec. recording setting on my OW swim yesterday but as others say it’s not really helping. My overall distance was about 300m recorded short, overall pace about 25sec. recorded slower per 100m. I did over 2800m on the swim course and watch recorded 2550m. I can see on the Strava data how regularly  the GPS drops. I’m a 1:40-1:45/100 swimmer and now 2:10/100 via 955. Never had any issues on the 920xt on OW swims. Running and Cycling GPS recording is spot on though. Hoping for an update from Garmin.

  • There is, but it didn't fix much. 11.12 was update for 955 after the release. 11.10 was the release firmware.

  • Got it. Have the update on my watch. As you said, didn’t really fix it :-
