955 solar no connectivity with file system or Garmin Express on Mac OS 12.5

It sounds like a cable problem. Try another dongle or test the dongle with another device. It will not appear in Finder og Disk Utility. And you cannot have Garmin Express, Android File Transfer or Commander One running simultaneously.

The USB C dongle works perfectly with every other device I have including a Fenix 3.  Can it still be the dongle?  

Out of curiosity I continuity-tested the fresh from the box Garmin cable and there was a connection from every pin to the USB A to the watch plug.

If possible maybe try on another computer to determine, if the problem is on the watch or computer side. I have older machines with usb-A and therefore not tried my Monterey machine.

I don't know anyone with a USB-C only computer.  I can however get an official Apple MJ1M2ZM/A USB-C to USB Adaptor quickly which would determine whether the dongle is at fault.

it doesn't have to be a USB-C only computer. Actually it would be best with usb-a test also, to cut the dongle out and reduce the number of variables.

That article says "To transfer music and other audio content to your device, install the Garmin Express program.".  I have installed Garmin Express and tried the 955 in both Garmin and MTP modes and it is not detected.   Garmin express works fine with my other devices by the way.

Using the same cable and dongle? If so and the connector on the watch is clean, the watch might be defect and you better contact garmin.

I came to the that conclusion 2 months ago and returned my first one to the retailer.  That one after a lot of perseverance could connect but then crashed GE.  This one doesn't at all.
